Official EK4 - EK9 Comparison

I dunno i could be wrong but how does the b18 inside the civic way the same as the b16b? Isn't the b18c a heavier block?
Bit of a kick, but the B16b is just a B18c with different pistons, rods and crank.

ive never seen this thread until now, good simple write up ian covering basics

uk e4 and ek9 and very different in terms of performance, handling, braking, car feel and looks both interior and exterior wise

i own a 4 and have had a 9 and taken both apart, tonnes of little differences which add up to a huge difference, quite a lot not mentioned here as well

I dont know it will be any help, but I used a website called TorqueStats.com :: Performance Car Statistics it has the hondas listed on there but unfortunately not ek4, and many other cars. There all factory cars and it has alot of detailed statics on there.

However, It does say the ek9 eill do 6.6s. But like I said I dont know if its any help, as Im knew to the honda world.

my mates dad has just got a vti-s for my mate... but his insurance is alot of money... what would you guys say he should do to get really cheap insurance as in 2.5k a year

my mate didnt think and went and got the ek4 vti-s but his insurance is killing him at 3.2k a year

how can he not make it as high?

i now wanna sell my ek4........

Contemplating getting a rolling ek9 shell and swapping all my parts onto it over next winter........ then selling the EK4 shell to re-coop some money, As said its got a far better shell to chassis etc to start with, so its worth doing IMO as you can get a rolling shell dead cheap (under 1k) :)

Worth doing in your opinions? i intend to keep this car long term and instead of caging the EK4 the money would probably be better spent getting a EK9 Shell,

ek4vti and ek4sir are 2 different specs sir is 176bhp

??? Can you confirm where u got this info from???

EK4 Vti B16A2 (UK) - 160hp
EK4 SiR B16A (JDM) - 170hp

Isnt the only difference in the 0.2 extra compression ratio and small difference in the cam duration.

Hi guys, I wonder if you can help me. My friend has a 97 Ek4 civic which the previous owner installed a b18c engine from the dc2 integra type r. Everything is running smoothly but we are having slight concern about the height of the manifolds because every now and then on a bumpy road the bottom flat steel part of the manifold seems to scrape the floor. Obviously this could lead to a more serious problem so I was wondering if anyone knows how this could be dealt with? Can they be raised? Any suggestions?

it sounds like you have the OEM 4-1 manifold and the only way this can be resolved is to replace the manifold with a 4-2-1.

The design of the manifold itself takes into no consideration the ground clearance. A quick fix would be to purchase the shield if it doesn't already come with one. If it does, then you may have to raise your car.

The manifold itself is in a static location and cannot be moved upwards unless you physically raise the motor itself, but that's not recommended as it can bind the axles to gain any sort of necessary clearance and the motor wouldn't clear the hood then.

Where are you located?

great write up.

someone needs to compare them both to an EG6 Sir JDM.

I've raced EK9's and beaten them. fair enough my B16A isn't stock but still it was as if he had a standard B16A2.

i used to own an EK4 with some light mods and the thing felt lazy, yeah it pulled hard but MEH.

EG6 Sir is so much fun it feels so light and nimble compared to EK4, if i'm keeping up with modded ek9's and beating some it can't be that bad. i'm sure the weight can't be far off an ek9 perhaps even lighter.....

only engine mods are cams, ecu, full exhaust and intake kit.

if i had an EK9 i'd set about doing a comparison but i'll be damned if i'm gonna sit here on the net and do it as there is so much mis information.

anyway great write up, just waiting for the eg6 sir to ek9 one now.
