Oil pressure sensor location for gauges

Next oil change before the car goes back on the road i'm looking to redo where my gauges take feeds from as i would like to remove the sandwich plate to maximise oil flow and remove the slight restriction the plate causes

Oil temperature will be taken from the sump (moroso sump so have a port there already)

Oil pressure however trying to work out a suitable place..........

Seen this picture before and always assumed you could run it off the bolt hole on the front left of the head

However looking at the parts catalogue Honda list this bolt as "bolt, sealing, 10mm" and as far as i'm aware the sensors for most gauges are 1/8 NPT threads?

Would i just require a M10 male to 1/8 female adaptor?

Any help would be appreciated

Steven

I'd say the best place to put it is where there stock oil pressure sender is. You will need to buy a 1/8 BSP adapter that allows you to run the stock oil pressure sender and your aftermarket sender.

I think the location in that picture looks ugly if you know what i mean. Its good to get a quick reading though if thats all your after.

Ps, double check that its 1/8 bsp i'm 90% sure it is, but i could be wrong...

Definately 1/8 NPT for the aftermarket sensor, will need to look into what the oem one is :nice:

Taking it from the head is a daft idea, for many reasons.

Ideal place is where the OEM one is. If you want to retain your dash warning lamp for oil pressue, I do a hose that connects to the block, and leads to a T piece you can mount on the subframe to put the aftermarket and oem sensors into. This is better hanging the weight of the two sensors and a T piece on the block, Ive read about a few people doing this and the T piece snap.

glad you brought this up steven . its a question i have always wanted to ask as i want rid of the sandwhich plate , i will give you a call gerry if you can supply the hose and t peice

Im going to do a kit in the new year with the hose and associated fitting as its something I get asked about often, will probably be around £30-35 for the kit

Cheers for the replies

Out of curiosity Gerry, why is it a stupid reason to mount it to the head? The photo there is of a touring car race prepared DC2 running motec management etc etc, I also remember Nebpor mentioning on the DC2 forum that Henry mounted his pressure sensor to the head of his B18

Not doubting your expertees, just interesting to hear :)

Ill order in some T-pieces :) The kit will consist of ;

-1/8npt adapter to screw into the block
-Hose to screw onto adapter and into T-piece
-Brass T-piece with 1/8npt outlets for the pressure switch and gauge sensor. I could possibly have distribution blocks with more outlets mate instead of the t-piece, for people who want an oil feed for a turbo perhaps.

Stephen, personally I would like my pressure switch as close to the pump as possible for a consistent and fairly accurate reading, the head is furthest away from the pump, and also, would register a pressure drop when vtec activates.

Would this kit run both the oil temp and pressure sensors as I'm using a sandwich plate now? If so will have one off you :)

Standard thread size on the B-series is 1/8 BSPT for the standard oil pressure switch.

im in for the kit Gerry when you have 1 made!
i already run a sandwhich plate for my b20 but want to run it off the stock sensor location!

so best place for temp is to tap/ weld a fitting on the sump?

x2 Will be wanting one of these :) was going to fit a sandwich plate with my next oil change :nono: may also have to aquire a sump to tap for my temp gauge and poss baffle it haha! :p
