My cars currently in at TDi having all my parts fitted etc.

They said they only supply millers 10W40 fully synthetic which is dear so said if I want I can get some other fully synthetic 10W40 from elsewhere.

However, I've been to a few places and they've all said fully synthetic 10W40 is rarely used now and I'll be better of with some semi synthetic instead.

I need the oil by Wednesday at the latest so my only choices are use the millers that they will supply or go for a different oil?

What do you other turbo guys reckon?

Proper head f-- k.

I had a read through the big oil thread but there's not much on the turbo side of things.

Also, it's going to be my daily drive for a while if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

oilman not supply cheap oil to the mainland? if your forking out on a engine build why skimp the ££ for some oil? surely its worth getting the quality oil.

Try Opie Oils they stock i wide range of oils!
sounds weird you asked TDi north why?

Asked TDi north why what?

And this isn't an attempt to get cheap as **** oil at all...

I want to know why nowhere seems to supply 10W40 fully synthetic and everyone's trying to get me to buy semi synthetic after I've told them a Honda specialist garage is fitting a turbo to my car and theyve told me to get that oil.

Also after reading the oil thread on here I noticed a fair few people running semi synthetic oils but not on turbod.

I'm just going to get the millers as yes I know oilman sells oils etc but I need it urgently and postage isnt an option.

Didn't realise it was so frowned upon to try and save a few quid :D

Thanks anyway.

Whats wrong with 5w 40 lol ? Its the 40 what counts in terms of how much heat it can withstand. 5w 40 will offer better cold start protection to.

I asked for that too, TDi just said 5 or 10. The shops just wouldn't accept that I wanted fully synthetic.

tell the shops "te geet de fook" and get the oil that you want, they are all trying to make a sale to put it simply. If time is the factor i'd fork out the extra for the 5 or 10w40 FS oil if its going to suite your application better. Then get yourself a cheaper alternative for your next oil change.

Right cheers. Going to go with the millers seeing as its quality stuff.

what cams are you using in ur car matey??

as some aftermarket cam manufactures state to use semi synthetics ONLY.

Nuno.

Castrol edge 5w-40 fully synthetic, I will be using this in my 700hp+ build.

Contact opie they are great and you will et a discount, if its a fresh build a heavier weight is probably better but i use to use the silkolene 5w-40 in my na, and I would think it would be fine for the turbo also, just keep an eye on it that its not thinning out to quick!

TDi has been in the game for a while, and im sure they know what they are doing and what would be suitable for your engine. If its what they have recommended, id go with that.

Stick with fully synthetic. 10w 40 sounds good, 5w40 or 5w 30 should be spot on aswell.

Dont skimp out on oil, have a look at fuchs/silkolene pro s, around £55 for 5 litres from opie oils is what i have always used on my k20.

Stick with TDi's advice.

With my b18c6 turbo with 600cv i use castrol edge 10w60 and i never have problem with consume( 500cc after 2000km) pressure oil and temperature( in track day but with only 20 psi turbo i read max 130 grade)

I run halfords 5W50 track day oil and have for the last 8 months on my turbo'd b series, running 340bhp. Doesnt smoke and uses very little, very stable oil temps too evan at full beans for 20 mins. Its made by comma so isnt shite, its semi synthetic and £34 for 5 ltrs

5w40 and 5w30 are to thin for boosted applications, the oil temps rocket!!!!!!!!

I run millers fully synthetic 5w 40 just fine on track. My temp has peaked around 100 degrees. The oil is good for around 130 degrees.

I think some people are getting a bit mixed up here, the last figure be it 30, 40,50,60 is the oils viscosity when the engine is up to temprature at 100 degrees c, the higher the number the thicker it is and some will say the level of protection it offers. The first number is it viscosity when cold, so the lower the number the better it flows and the better it protects the engines internal components from cold starts etc. From a performance stand point its the last number we should be most intrested in.l
