Looking for opinions on this piston which has suffered some damage at some point -

There is another one with less smaller marks but the one in the picture is definitely the worst.

Looks like debris ingress damage, is it just that piston?

Thanks for the reply, thought so.

A couple of the others have marks but not even half as bad as that. I just put the worst one up. Here's another which is affected, the other is barely noticeable and the 4th is ok.

I just bought this recently so I've been looking over it. Wondering if I will need new pistons or not. Thought about a resurface but I think the damage is too deep. It's over 1mm in places I think.

What do you want to know? Wether to use them again or not? I would have the worst one out and check the ringlands? if they are still sweet run it.

Yes whether to use them. I personally am thinking that it's too damaged. What you think?

What I said above, take it out check the ringlands and a good visual inspection if all good run it.

Pistons are out, rings are ok but there is some scuffing on the skirts. Going to polish them up and run them I think, damage isn't all that bad. Caused by very hot running I think

They are all pretty much like this on both sides -

Running them is just asking for trouble IMO be better running a set not damaged, can pick a set of itr pistons etc for cheap these days .... If it's overheated are you running standard rods they could be recked to no point throwing it together again if in a few miles it has to be rebuilt again

Actually come to think of it I have a set of itr pistons and rods in the garage from my standard b18c block there undamaged if you need them give me a shout and I'll sort you out. No point building up a engine with parts your not sure about seen it done and it's not worth the hassle

Running Crower steel conrods and they're CP forged pistons, hard as nails

Plus bored out to 81.5mm so standard pistons too small, thanks anyway tho!

I think you can smooth the surfaces a little bit, just polish or coat skirts and you can use them?

Looking at them again in the flesh that is the worst one in the picture.

Can barely feel the marks at all and the others barely have a mark on so I'll be running them :)

The reason it has scuffed the skirt is because as you say it has got hot and a 9 out of 10 chance is because it ran lean. I have used pistons in worse condition than that and been fine.

Yep! I'll be running them. Just file the burrs off the top of the worst one and give them a polish, good to go!

Ok no problem mate running a similar piston/rod combo hope u get sorted I'm running brain crower rods and weisco pistons

Thanks mate. Should all be done soon :) ah nice, just ordered some new rings tonight from the US so should be making progress soon

Glad to here, have had my share of heartaches with my old integra track car so no how annoying it is when things go wrong haha keep us updated :)

:) shall do, new clutch arrived & new rings due any day now

Nah being done at a machine shop. I'll swap the engine myself and swap the B16B head onto the B18 but the actual building is being done by them
