While the car is started, We unscrewed the oil cap. It seems to be releasing alot of pressure is that normal???

okay going to assume you just don't know much about engines… yes that is normal. Oil pressure. Toooo much isn't good thought but you will be fine

Thanks for the reply. I've got someone that wants the engine, but wasn't to sure about why it did it. Engine runs nice no problems what so ever. So it isn't anything to be concerned about??

.?

That is crankcase pressure. Its normal to have some but an excessive amount can be down to worn compression rings or your PCV valve is stuck closed.

Knowing how much is excessive is down to experience , but if your concerned , carry out a compression test , and maybe check the PCV valve is working.

The car has been parked for a long time and I have been starting it here and there but no revving jus letting it idle. Is it best to replace the PCV valve ??

Just take it out and clean it, that should do. Certainly worked for me!

why did you take the oil cap off while the engine is running?

Not yet I'm stil in process of taking bits of the cars as he wants engine, gearbox, hubs, tank fuel lines etc. so I'm just giving him the shell with all the things he wants on there
