Right i have a dirty great nail in my R888's now i won't repair this for obvious safety reasons but would like to no how changing one tyre will effect the handling instead of say the 2 fronts or the 2 rears. The tyres have a 1000 miles absolutly max! Possibly less but i don't want to create an inbalance.

Thanks Ian

Ian,

I know that for you own reasons that you don't want to repair the tyre but it really does depend where the nail is in the tyre. As most do very good tyre repairs! But should wish to change a tyre the fact that you have not covered alot of distance shouldn't make too much of a problem when it comes to handling. But you could keep a matching pair on the front and the rear has your replacement tyre!

Its quite close to the sidewall and i do track it. About an inch from the edge i suppose.

I don't know if i could trust it plugged.

Its your choice, i've plugged road tyres but not a track tyre. but you need to be comfortable in doing it.

make sure you video it and youtube it though..

on to the subject you got a picture of the nail? let see a picture of the whole width of the tyre...

Plug it and put that tire in the rear. Much less stress on the rear tires, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Your other option would be to get one new tire, and then do a burnout with one junk tire and the new R888 on the front. For the junk tire you could find one at a wrecker or plug your old one and use that. Burn off rubber until the tread width is equal all around.

Or you could buy a new tire from a racing oriented seller that does tire shaving, and have them shave the new tire to the tread width of the used tires.
Either case you'll need a tire depth gauge of some sort.

Right i will swap them front to back if they can be plugged my mate thinks it can.

Here's a pic.

dam thats pretty close, Personally i would have doubts repairing that, you can see your scrub line, and its just on it i reckon.

IF you do decide to repair it...put it on the inside of the rear.

or now you can set it on fire....

That is fine to repair, i fit tyres and do punctures every day you can have that fixed .

a would get it sorted if it was me :nice:

i also fit and fix tyres all the time as im a mechanic,no problem fixing that the plugs are like really sticky strings of licqorice(spelling) it cant blow out of it or anything it bonds to the tyre i say fix it!

I wouldnt trust the plugs on a track day! The excessive heat seems to make shite of them.. an inside patch would be ideal.
