My car has a complete mugen exaust system.

I will de-cat my car next week, also i can remove the resonator, i dont care about the sound, or if it's illegal.

Should i remove it? removing this willl help ?

Thanks for your help.

if it's not your daily car, remove it, i think it might help, you will have a direct exaust system, j's racing has it that way in this circuit race exaust systems.

Have you removed the resonator yet? Just interested to see if it made a noticeable difference? :thanks:

yes i did, and the car felt a lot better, it revs a lot faster, i cant dyno prove this though..

i have a comptech race exaust, its VERY LOUD, but i just use the ek9 for racing, so thats not a problem :nice:

wouldn't you have lost the lower end and mid range? i guess that doesnt matter if it's for the track.. :D

the resonator does not affect flow, only sound. (unless its a chambered resonator)

My car has no cat or resonators, so in turn it resonates (buzzes loudly) at certain rpms, most notably 3000-3500.

No i mean the cats.

why? this thread is about resonators...

sounds like a buddyclub spec II, is that what you have? replaced my entire exhuast to 3" + de-cat getting ready for the turbo, even with the silencer in the tip its very very very loud, with out it it was just insane!

so if this thread is about resonators and someone said they removed their cats. Is that prohibited?

how easy is it to remove resonator and what does it entale
all help appreciated, cheers

Wow, this is old and since someone bumped it I'll answer- its just a steel crush bent 2.5" straight through, to a non straight through style muffler.
I don't like it in any way, and the exhaust is the next thing I'm replacing.

Dwales some exhaust's have a bolt in and out resonator, that is just bolted out and replaced with a pipe with flanges on the ends.
If its welded in like many systems then the resonator has to be cut out and replaced with either a welded or bolt in pipe.
I DO NOT recommend it as resonators do a lot to keep the exhaust from resonating (certain rpms will buzz and be LOUD) and they don't really affect performance in most cases. Its essentially a straight through mini-muffler upstream of the main muffler.
Essentially you will lose a small amount of weight by removing the resonator, but the exhaust unless is most likely going to sound like ****. If you have a race car it wont matter however.

Very easy, at the exhaust shop, they just cut the resonator off, and add a "normal" tube where the resonator was.

The only benefit of this, in my opinion, will be weight reduction, mine, the stock one weighted like 10 pounds!

Also the car will be very LOUD. :nice:

I had my exhaust overhauled on my converted CTR & the previous owner had put 4 resonators in - cat was already removed.

What I had done - removed 4 resonators & replaced with one free-flow (still lets the air through unrestriced but keeps the noise down) resonator mid exhaust & one smaller free flow near the rear. I also had a silencer made up to fit for round town driving & take it out on the track.

The difference on my car was very noticeable - much stronger kick at 6000RPM, Reved quicker & accelerated much smoother & quicker.

& the funny thing even without the silencer in it is quieter now than what it was with the 4 resonators in (well until you hit Vtec & it pretty much roars but I love it).

So for me it was a performance gain - unfortunately I was not able to get it on a dyno before-hand. Also the mechanics cut open the old resonators & they were quite restricting inside.
