Rocker cover needs sprayed or powder coated

Hi guys,

I gave my engine bay a bit of a clean today and the paint on my rocker cover has started to flake quite badly (I know this is pretty common but it looks awful so want to get it sorted).

Anyway was wondering what everyone's opinion is on getting the rocker cover sprayed or powder coated? I think powder coating would last longer but not sure how good a match could be made to match the current colour and strut.

Also can anyone recommend a good place for getting this done in the Edinburgh area?

Cheers

Gary

Current colour is red mate, standard ek9 rocker cover, with added flakes lol

Yeah it's a wrinkle finish I think.

this is what you'll need plus some non-residue degreaser and steel wool... If you do a search there are a few threads about rocker cover painting.

Thanks mate but I don't really have anywhere to do the work myself now I've moved in with the gf so looking to get it done at a garage.

Would have used one of the write up and done it myself it I had somewhere to do it.

Powder coat it all the way in my opinion!
Getting mine done soon!
Withstands everything.

That's my thoughts, I think it will be more durable than just painting but wanted to get some input from people who have had it done to make an educated decision.

You need no space to do It dude, put it on a box and spray it outside then being it inside into the heat for a day or two for it to cure fully

If you have the money just powdercoat it :nice:
Not so much different colors and no wrinkle finish though.

If you're on a budget just do it yourself, enough diy threads around and normal paint is strong enough to withstand the heat. But a powdercoat layer is much stronger indeed.

I painted mine almost 2 years ago and it still shows no signs of flaking what so ever. So powder coating is I think a bit overkill, plus I personally like the wrinkle finish....

I hear you mate and I would have if I still lived in my pad but in my gf's these days and she goes mental if I leave my keys lying about never mind a freshly painted rocker cover that will prob reek of paint fumes. Lol

I've done loads of little jobs like this myself on other things like wipers and seat rails etc but that was when I had my own place and wasn't under the thumb lol:angry:

I like the wrinkle effect to so may not go down the powder coat route but then I think it would most likely last longer powder coating it. Argh

I know there are plenty DIY threads but defo want to get it done professionally so if anyone knows any places in Edinburgh that are fairly priced let me know.

Does anyone have any experience of the tegiwa carbon dipped rocker covers?

Carbon dipped? Is that the same process as dipping parts in water with a skin and activator?

In that case it probably doesn't look very good. I've seen wheels 'carbon' dipped and the finish doesn't look like carbon at all. If you want the carbon look you should pay for real carbon imo, carbon style and such looks awfull most of the time.

Yeah I believe it is dipped in water and some form of transfer is applied, it looks alright in the pics but as you said it doesn't look like real carbon (not that I would be trying to claim it was lol)
