rushy_23 - 1998 EK9 Racebase

It's been a while coming, I remember speaking to you about going jap back in 08 or so and you wanted an EK9 back then!
Randomly came across you earlier on my LinkedIn people you may know, thought I'd see how the 106 was getting on as its been years since I've been on sax-p. Was a nice surprise to see your upgrade!

Hope all is well.

I've had spoon springs didn't think much of them and they didn't drop the car! Coilovers much better choice set up correctly with camber is the way forward

Hey Rushy,

Remember the days of being on Sax-p and seeing your 106. I was sim69er on there haha.

For removing weight you can go for a light weight battery, Carbon bonnet and boot however I didn't notice much difference with my bonnet over OEM

You could remove the glass and go for Perspex, however given that you don't want to strip the interior I take it you don't want to go too mad??

Remove the wing mirrors and fit some spoon style ones?
Lighter exhaust if it still has the OEM B Pipe and Manifold?

Before the track day what brake pads do you have?

If your planning on tracking it regular fit a baffled sump or get the weld in plates. If its a stock sump and you don't have time before the track day make sure the oil is topped right up. I would even suggest a slight overfill.

Ah no way, hows it going mate? It seems the whole of Sax-p are lurking on EK9.org from what I've noticed.

Cheers for the advice, a lot of what you have suggested is on my to do list, however progress will be extremely slow. Mainly want the baffled sump, catch tank and oil cooler to ensure the engine it kept tip top.

Will improve / lighten anything that wont be noticed is missing from the car if that makes sense. Try to maintain the illusion that bar the wheels the car is stock.

Looking forward to getting it on track next year, just I keep spending time and money on other hobbies ATM.

Love the gti, Had a white one myself and several sundance yellow ones

Look forward to the updates on the 9, See the wheel purchase has already been done, excellent choice :)

Thank you dude. I have no regrets with my old 106 GTi, they are fantastic cars. Any pictures of yours?

Bloody hell you're on here too!? You know what, I actually remember myself telling you that ages ago, finally happened. Missus isnt too please about it but she knows it keeps me happy.

Just need to make sure I dont go as mad with the Civic as I did with the 106, spend more time driving and enjoying it.

Thanks for the advice Matt, I've chosen to steer clear of them as the upgrade factor over stock seem minimal, ride height is a bit high as the car is but it feels excellent to drive which is the main thing,

The car itself hasnt progressed a fat lot, I notice with my new wheels and tyres, the tyres keep going flat after a few days. Not just one tyre but a few of them. Strange, getting the valves checked out as it gets serviced end of the month by Honda.

Wasnt too keen on the extended wheel nuts so have gone for some traditional chrome plated steel nuts. TO mask the blinginess I have got some matt black wheel caps to fit over them.

Once the service is done plan to continue cleaning and maintaining the car over winter, once the weather improves next year will then look at the baffled sump / oil cooler / catch tank. Then get it out on track. Really looking forward to it, its been such a long time.

In regards to cleaning, its insane how much muck and dirt gets hidden away on these cars, and its so noticable up close on championship white paintwork. Its had numerous clay bar sessions, but needs more work to get it how I want it.

Will keep you all posted, but ideally need dedicate some of my gym and Mortal Kombat X time to the car. God can only imagine what it will be like once Fallout 4 is released!

Hi all,

Been a while since Ive posted. I have plans to sell the car very soon, its a reluctant sale unfortunately as we have one too many cars we are juggling between and the EK9 is the car that serves the least purpose.

The car is in as fantastic condition as it was when I purchased it. I will jot down the mileage in this thread when I next am in the car. It will be sold with the original wheels not the SW338's (they will be sold separately).

I was wondering if people had an idea on the value of the car? This is a really good example, but is a Pre Facelift model and a Race Base also. Will get full details later and put up a for sale thread, its been a joy to own, a very very nice car to drive and own always turning heads. :)

Hi all, I plan to sell on both the EK9 Racebase and the Spoon wheels. Does anyone perhaps know the going rate for SW388s? Mine were second hand but in prestine condition. They are still in excellent condition, think there is a bit of pain flaking off on one of the rims. Will do a for sale thread soon enough.

Cheers!
