Scottish Independence

Calling yes voters Uneducated is a bit ignorant lol. I used to think that too. A lot of emotion is involved. Like my mate who researched a lot, I respect that but do you believe these "facts"? Salmond sugar coated pretty much everything, and that's why the yes campaigners were all too positive.

I used to think that yes voters were uneducated, deluded, proud and nothing to lose. Again, that is an ignorant statement. A lot of smart folk backed independence.

I did say a large percentage, not everyone.
This is a problem throughout the UK. The rise of UKIP is proof of this.

I don't vote, and never have done. Not because I am waiting for the revolution, or because I am some anti-government activist. Purely because I am uneducated when it comes to politics. I don't believe in uneducated votes, but unfortunately a lot of people do.

I voted No yesterday but Im not happy or sad regarding the result; I am however glad it was a No win.

If there had been a more solid propositions of what was going to happen with the currency instead of the ridiculous currency union or dollarisation plans then I would have been glad to vote Yes as I fully supported the Yes campaigns policies of no illegal wars, no unelected house of lords, no nuclear arms etcetc.

I just stuck to what I know : Economics.

C'est la vie.

Was there any way at all that a currency union could've worked?

IMO no. The UK has spent 20 odd years trying to avoid the Euro for good reason. It has aided the destruction of Ireland, Spain, Greece etc etc. Whilst not being as extreme as the Euro, a currency union using the pound would not have been good for a new Independent Scotland as it would leave control of monetary policy and to some extent fiscal policy in the hands of the Bank of England who unlike the current situation would have no obligation to thinking about the needs of Scotland/Wales etc. This would mean interest rates would be out of the control of the new Scottish Gov's hands; this is a key issue dictating the cost of loans, mortgages etc. These loans and mortages are what fund and back small business'.

The second idea of Dollarisation or as Salmond has been calling it 'Sterlingisation' is even worse. This is the economic policy that lead to such currency crisis as:
South American late 1980's
South American 2002
Argentina 1998-2002
East Asain 'Tigers' 1997

A truly folly plan, this is what Salmond referred too when he repeatedly said 'They cant stop us having the pound' like it was some kind of benefit. What a fat ride.

The third plan was the new currency, this is the option I know the least about, but as far as I read/watched this was not really dealt with in any great depth by either the better together or the independence campaigns.
A new currency would involve massive infrastructure changes and transaction costs, but a true Scottish currency could potentially avoid the pitfalls of the shared currency. However, this option could also backfire badly, as Scotland as a country would have no 'reputation' to support its essential foreign borrowing, and the currency could be highly unstable destroying the price of exports. Furthermore without prudence, there could be serious consequences regarding inflation.

Even if there was a new Scottish currency however, if Scotland had then joined the Eurozone, it was have replaced by the cursed Euro.

Basically, IMO, there was no currency option that was not worse than the current setup. The potential for a new currency did exist, but with such little attention being paid to that option, there was no way I was voting yes, even though I agreed with the vast majority of the Independance campaigns policies.

Soz for the essay lol :blinx:

I'm happy with the outcome. Just hope that everyone can move on TOGETHER rather than be bitter about it...

Have to say though, this referendum has been great for identifying the mong's on my Facebook, got rid of most of them now (yes and no voters alike)

.

No doubt there'll be another referendum in time.

But to be fair, there's a difference between expressing disappointment and being bitter.

Agreed. The name calling and insults to people that voted for a different outcome (no) is being bitter in my opinion.

Sorry Josh, I misread that. But I'm the same as you. Oh well it's over now

Well atleast the pound took a sharp rise.
Perfect for someone about to buy a load of car parts from America, so cheers lads!

I chuckled on that one^
"All the freedom!"

Early hours of of this morning would of been the ultimate time to buy by the look of it, starting to level back out again now

And the "No" voters have started shouting No Surrender and singing Rangers song in George Square. Idiots, absolute idiots. This had nothing to do with football or Religion etc... But some folk can't help themselves.

Everyone can have their opinions. I will admit I feel very disappointed and sad that it wasn't a "Yes" but now this has just made me feel worse and quite embarresed at these animals starting fights (on both sides, but more so the No side for singing the songs and bringing in stuff that there was no need to)

Yeah honestly this is disgraceful behaviour. Its as if getting their own way was not enough, they now feel the need to antagonise the other side of the campaign.

Bunch of maggots trying to incite bigotry and hatred. If I was a polis Id have started smashing cunts full force with my baton, get the maggots to use their union jack flags to collect their own teeth.

You cant hide stupidity.

I can only say if this is what the no voters are reacting like when they won can you imagine what they would have been like in the case of a yes vote?

Also if anyone knows that guy who ripped the saltire away from that girl i would like to know who he is.

Disgrace. I will admit I had some banter and name calling on Facebook but actually resorting to this physical violence and bigotry is shameful.

Hopefully it all blows over soon and we can get onto the next Yes campaign :p
