I was wodering if it is ok to run supertech springs and retainers with skunk2 pro 1?

People recommend to run skunk2 pro springs and retainers, but I think I can get similar or equal performance with a supertech set.

Here is some useful info:

Skunk2 Pro -B series Vtec- 311-05-5350
60lbs seated at 1.320 or 33.5mm
210 lbs @ .820 " - 20.828mm
bind @ .720 " 18.288mm

Skunk2 tuner springs- B series vtec 311-05-0350
50 lbs @1.320 seated at 33.5mm
210lbs @.820 20.828mm
bind .800 20.32mm

Supertech spr- H1002d
70lbs @ 33.5mm or 1.320"
190 lbs at 12mm lift
max lift 14mm or .551 inch
coilbind -19.5mm or .767 inch

Supertech SPR h100 DR
85 lbs @ 33.5 seated
266 @ 14mm open .551 inch
15mm max lift .590 inch
18.5 mm coil bind
Info i found in other forum:

I talked to Skunk2 about running those springs and retainers. They said it will be fine having stiffer then they recommend. I asked about additional wear and they said stiffer springs are naturally going to have more wear but it isn't anything to stress over.

The valve to valve clearance was the main thing they stressed. If you are running more the .5mm over then you really need to check the clearances before running these cams.
i personally ran the heavy supertech springs with pro 1's and my exhaust cam ate my rockers...others have gotten away with it though...personally id run the sk2 springs if i was to do it all over
What do you guys think? tuners help!! :D

Run the springs made for the cam, simple as that...

I agree with you but I can get some supertech springs and retainers at a good price, and I have some friends running supertech springs and retainers but with skunk2 pro stage 2 cams.

I just emailed supertech and I hope they get back to me :nerv:

I think I need this ones:

SPR-H1002D 70 lbs seat pressure/ Rate: 254 lbs/in / Max Net lift: 13.5mm (0.531”)

SPR-H100DR: 85 lbs seat pressure / Rate: 317 lbs/in / Max Net lift: 14mm ( 0.570”

The initial info I posted might be wrong, because now I found this other information supposed to be the "official" specs.

I hope this guys get back to me soon so I can share with the forum the information
:secret:

I received a answer from supertech:

RVM,

If this is an all motor application then yes, you would use those springs. If you using turbo, or High lift then you should use the SPR-H100DR springs.

I'm very impressed they answer me in less than a hour :D

you can use standard springs and retainers on pro 1's

Agreed. I was up with Robbie in Icetronix a few weeks ago asking him that question and he said as the type r valve train is better than sir or vti valve train there is no need to upgrade valvetrain unless you have the money for the upgraded ones and the labour on top of that

Yep, but my motor WILL get abuse, I want to rev a little higher, thats why I just prefer to be safe

i'd be goin with stage 2's if your upgradin valvetrain. Its like slappin a turbo on your car, torque increase is serious

i wouldnt waste my time with stage one

i would go stage 2 as there all round better and not as if there any dearer

For stage 2 compression of 12.1+ required, :((

Hey guy.. Been reading these forums for days now and can't make a decision on springs and retainers.. Plus should I get new keepers?

What springs should I use for skunk 2 Pro 1s? Na setup for the street? B16a high comp setup just under 12:1, rev to 9k
