took some pics of a project i finished(well sort of finished!) a few months back thought i'd share,:) its a 1988 fiesta xr2 with a 2.0 16v engine from a ford mondeo with dellorto 45mm carbs, with 4-2-1 and 2 1/2" system.

its a bit quicker than a stock xr2:drive:

hope people like.

Tell us some more about the build mate, was it an easy swap? Any difficulties encountered?

Nice job by the way :nice:

Thats one of the coolest projects I've seen, and I'm sure you haven't spent too much on it. That motor is nice and torquey for that little car.

Great job!!

cheers for the coments guys, the hardest part of the project was the body re build... fords rust badly!
engine swap was easy really, what i had to do/parts used:
get 2.0 16v ford mondeo engine, the sump oil pick up pipe, oil pump, water pump, oil dip stick and tube and top hose and gear box spacer from 1.8 16v ford escort engine,
had to swap the the oil pump as the filter comes out straight on the 2.0 and filter would not clear the chassis leg, the 1.8 pump has an angled casting which clears the chassis leg:nice: the sump on the 2.0 is to big and leaves no room for the exhaust manifold and its also to big to clear the gearbox cradle, the 1.8 sump has more clearance and fits straight on, the water pump needed to be changed as the 2.0 mondeo pump spins a different way to normal as it has has p/s and a/c and the belt loops round it all in a different way, the 1.8 pump spins the correct way when the belt is fitted in a triangle pattern around the bottom pulley -water pump-alternator and sorts this problem out, gearbox is standard xr2, flywheel is from xr2i efi with the fixing holes drilled out to 11mm, clutch is escort rs turbo, to bolt the engine in i had to adapt 1 engine mount which took about half an hour! the ignition is managed by a webcon 2d system with ford coil pack. most of the parts were from a local breakers yard, so nice and cheap:nice:

thanks for the coments, unfortunetly some one tried to force the bonnet open a few nights ago and bent the bonnet badly:angry: nothing was taken thankfully. got a black bonnet on it now which looks a bit strange lol.

Love this car ! Looks great fun and a true sleeper. Bet lots of ppl have been embarased by this little pocket rocket ! Shame some t*** had to force the bonnet jelous little pikey scum. Have you sold it or you still have it ?

i forgot all about this thread! yeah its shown up a lot of stuff, when the idiots ask i just say, its standard car with twin 40's:D,
yeah i still have it but not used it since buying the ek9:((

Looks like it would be a fun little car to drive nice!!!

Oh man! i loved those old XR2's and you have modernised one with a ZETEC engine :nice::clap::clap::clap:

Well done m8.

Dunx

thanks for the comments:)

nice car mate. my mate has one of these it looks identical to yours but he is running a rs turbo engine i think its running around 260bhp in his. nice car anyways mate.

thanks! did think about the turbo option, but value for money the n/a zetec option cant be beat, and its a hard and reliable engine.
your mates car must be crazy to drive with that power!
