Morning all

So had a gander through the Internet and found a lot of different opinions!

I know as a aftermarket diff you require non oem gear oil just want a solid answer to this

As there is a lot on oils for these diffs and people say you need friction modifying fluid ect

Is there a oil off the shelf I can put straight in my gearbox

Thanks in advance

Synchro 80 is the best I've used so far. I found normal mtf to be way to harsh for the diff, kazz was to thick. The diff felt nice but at the back of my mind I knew it wasn't good for the box itself.

The synchro 80 feels the best, gearbox is super smooth and the diff has a nice bite which it should

I've used syncro 80 aswell, box seemed fine with it in.
Tbh I actually prefer the mtf oil with the diff than the other oils.

Awrite chief. I use torco mtf oil and this torco diff additive as well. Recommended by Baird so...

Yeah it clunks alright. Breaks necks and you get disgusted looks :)

I'm in no rush man. If you are wanting it I won't put it up for sale and keep it for you. Nah it's a spoon LSD, the ATS is the 3/4/5 gearset

Fuking funsies

I highly recommend TORCO RTF with about 1/3 bottle of Torco friction modifier, as do M-factory

You can use thicker oils with more friction modifier but you will eventually damage the synchros and needle bearings which are very expensive to replace

My diff does clunk and bang at low speeds but that's just it working as it should, if you are worried about this for a daily driver then always go with a helical diff instead

I'll probably go for torco how much do you usually pay per litre?

I'm not worried about the clunking ect I've already bought a box with spoon diff at the weekend there and stripped it for a freshen up with new seals and oil and a general check over before it goes in

So I decided to run torco mtf and I'll use the modifier in small amounts to get it too feel the way I want it

Decided to go for torco mtf as is a good compromise over the rtf as I will do a track day every month or so and change the oil after 2/3 months of driving and see how it holds up!

Thanks for the help and input on this guys :)

Realised yesterday my diff is much less aggressive and only knocks on full lock now.
Been using mtf3 for afew 1000 miles.
Going to swap back to fusch Titan syn 5.
It's an oil designed for LSDs in manual transmissions. Much like the syncro80.

Tried slip modifier before an I kept crunching gears on the downchange, esp from 5th to 4th. Won't ever use that stuff again....

I was meant to say I have one bottle of mtf torco left unopened. I originally bought 3 but turns out two was enough so let me know if you want it- if I can dig it out lol

@jesse888 im just going to run the torco at first and see if it holds up if it starts crunching with the modifier it will be binned!

@Ally138 i just bought 3 bottles today off tegiwa lol

It was on track that it would crunch so...

Hmm if I'm on track on Monday will see how it goes if it starts crunching I'll change my game plan I'm only going to add the modifier in very small amounts

You might be alright then. I went HAM and added half a bottle lol

I didn't crunch on track. But had minor problems going into 2nd front 3rd. Went into 4th instead but I think my linkage is rubbish. Other than that no crunching :)

adding friction modifier allows the plates to slip slightly so as much as it will reduce noise and make the diff operate a tad smoother, it will also make the diff less efficient

used to use Motul 75w90 LS oil with spoon diff in both B series and K series forms, worked great

Spoon exclusively use Motul oils and the above oil is the one they recommend for use with their LSDs

I'm going to change my oil this month after pay day so I'll go for the motul and see how that goes
