SSB EK4 kanjo inspired

JEEEZ HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG!

Finally decided to update the thread after a bit of trouble last weekend.

Basically the timing belt has snapped cruising at about 65mph, so first port of call was a new OEM timing belt kit which is on the way and instead of taking the head off I put an endoscope (very small camera) down the plug holes to view the top of the pistons.
Long story short there’s no apparent damage or contact patches, few spots I’m worrying about but just decided to throw a belt on, time her up and see how she runs?!

Depending on the outcome I’ll either be ordering a new set of Supertech Titanium valves or a Hondata S300 and getting a re map for the ITB’s, which are ready to go on just need holes drilling for the studs :))

That’s my current predicament, car is good otherwise. Also had the front bumper an EK9 grille I bought a while back re painted, I mirror polished the TWM fuel rail and bought a SPA Design fuel pressure gauge to go on but I’ll wait for the car to be running so i can wire it up properly. Oh the wiring was also cut down some more and tidied up a lot by wrapping it in Tesa tape instead of the ugly OEM plastic rubbish.

There’s probably a lot more I’ve tidied up and bought but just Enjoy some pics...

i have a 1.4 and the milage is only 40000 it is friggin awesome i have a big bore thats it i want to get a air in take can you advise where i can go on internet or what specs and i want the engine to be safe nothing that would harm the running of the car as its like new

****. Hope there is no damage
Yeah there’s damage, just valves though so got them on order. Other than that she’s good, should be back up an running in a few weeks depending when the parts arrive man.

Little update, head was taken off as the car would crank and not start (new belt kit & timed correctly).
Valves were clearly not seating so had the head pressure tested for cracks and valve guides checked for damage and general wear but all is relatively good!
New Supertech valves on order with Ferrea stem seals and the valve seats will need a bit of work but she’ll be back soon, have a few bits on the to do list while the SSB is off the road as well

Switch panel in the making... keeping myself busy while I wait for parts to re assemble and have the head machined.

Status update on the SSB...

Picking the head up tomorrow finally, it’s had valve seats re cut, very minimal head skim to ensure it’s 100% flat, new Supertech titanium high compression valves along with new Ferrea viton stem seals.

The car itself sits without any front hubs/spindles as I’m replacing the bearings and fitting extended studs so I can run the 10mm spacers needed for my Mugen RNR’s to clear the brake callipers plus I have finished my switch panel (more to come on both of those with pics) :naughty:

Change of plans people, B18c is coming out for a re build and I’ve got a completely stock b16a2 to go in as a replacement so I can use the car and dial in the suspension in the meantime :))
Also my gauge/switch panel is vertually finished, still need to add the hazard switch and left room for a couple more gauges.

Trying to get images of the work so I can update the thread more too.

Also got my front wheel bearings done, now running extended studs and a 10mm spacer up front, sitting a lot better even with the 6j fanblades I think.
205/50’s on my 6.5j Mugen RNR’s should be flush with the arch.
C&C welcome

How come the b18 rebuild mate? Sup with it
There’s a few issues, nothing too major. Misfires on idle or seems like it does and when accelerating it’ll be flat then it’s like I’ve stepped on it and stutters.
Pretty sure it’s timing related but instead of diagnosing it and going round in circles fixing one thing after another this seems like the best solution.

I wanted to have it re built so perfect excuse really haha

Keep completely forgetting to update the thread lol

Off the top of my head nothings changed from the previous post other than the B16 is in and running sweet (pulls well for what it is with the 98spec s80 box, albeit very gutless unless you’re in vtec)

Want to soon get parts together for the B18c but going to first overhaul the suspension and 100% get tyres for the Mugens I’ve had for nearly 3 years now :nono:

Also if there’s anyone that’s wired up the Savage/trilogy hazard switch, slide in my DM’s as I’ll be tackling that after the SSB’s MOT tomorrow :nerv:

Small update for the build.
Haven’t done anything major yet as just insured/MOt’d and taxed the car for the year, few bits getting done this year though (hopefully cage, suspension and a bit of paint/dent repair mostly)

Recently though been slowly finding bolts, brackets and hinges to get freshly zinc coated  have a load more to get done, nearly every bit of engine and interior hardware has been re done looking brand new again.

Also decided to re build the alternator off the B18c as it was looking grim and gave me something to do lol
Completely disassembled, bearings removed and meticulously cleaned (zinc coated the stainless casing too) just new parts to fit and see if it still works.

Not so good news though, someone (maybe MOT tester) was kind enough to put a jack under my FLOOR PAN only a few inches away from the actual jacking point, lovely dent now and a split in the body seam inside :angry2: easy fix but not happy at all (although gives me an excuse to get other dents and the firewall painted before a cage goes in)

Aerocatches installed, never doing it to an oem bonnet again... very long process.

This forum is so quiet these days, ANYWAY acquired a couple more sets of wheels since.
As I shall show below:

The white set are Sparco Viper-R’s unfortunately an incomplete set of 3 (were a bargain) so on the hunt for a single or pair in exact sizes.

And another classic, Kosei K1’s.
All 15” wheels of course, they do need refurbishing but my priority is to find some new bucket seats (most likely Bride glitter backs)

Along with that I’ve been busy zinc coating whatever I could take off the car and my B18.
Only things left really is the hardware for the RTA’s, rear camber and control arms etc.

Almost everything is original hardware/brackets, Everything seen is freshly acids dipped and zinc coated (yellow hardware and the bigger parts other than the coolant neck are silver/clear zinc plating)

It’s these little details I feel most people overlook and there’s nothing better than working with fresh new hardware which will be throughout this car.

Keep an eye out for updates since I now have 90% of the new suspension components ready to go on...
