Hi Guys

Got a facelift Ek9, Went for MOT yesterday and was told the steering rack has a lot of play in it. they saying both side has a lot of play and its dangerous to drive.

Will i have to replace the whole steering rack, or can i repair this one? i was trying to look for one but no one has it for EK9, can a EK4 steering rack fit and is it the same as EK9 one, please help

Thanks

Is it the rack or the inner and out tie rods that are worn. If they are old and worn you will see play in the steering

Thanks for the reply. Checked the tie rods and they are fine. The play looks from inside when you move the wheel, the noise comes from inside. Garage recomended me if i can change the bushes inside not sure if that is possible. Is there any way to fix the rack itseld

Sounds like its the inner track rods they connect to the rack behind the cv boot.

I think you should replace both inner and outer tie rods regardless because they are significantly cheaper to replace than the rack. The second thing you should do is replace the 3 steering rack bushings because it is also a cheap replacement. It is very unlikely that it's the internals of the rack itself that is the problem but you should change the other stuff first.
