Strange cooling problem...

Haha! Set the civic from stun to kill lol
Good luck to yah bud! Sure Aonghus will make an epic machine of it.

No technical help here, but I have that book at home for uni if you ever need it

Just thinking out loud here but... if I block test the radiator and find there is no CO present in the coolant (fingers crossed as it would make my day) is there a chance that this is boost pressure in the cooling system? As in inlet manifold gasket? Or am I just looking for any reason for it not to be the HG? @jesse888 @Vtec6000

Clutching at straws I think mate.
You'd expect to see C02 in the system though so worth a shot.
I can't see you running much boost pressure on your base map? plus I would have thought it would pull the coolant through whilst in vac if it's managing to put boost pressure into the coolant.

Well that's me finished work and heading to the garage to find out... I'll update once I stop throwing spanners, kicking things and swearing at inanimate objects.

Right so I've just got to the garage... First 3 miles stop start traffic next 7 miles cruise at 70 last 5 miles pushing it harder. Temps fine. If anything lower than usual. Sat with the car running, speaking to a guy when I got here for 20 min. Temp never more than just under half way. And no more water in the bottle than when I left work. Gonna block test it now. This is blowing my mind. Intermittent hg issue? Does that even exist. Wtf?

Block test results are in... There is definitely CO2 in the cooling system. So head gasket has failed although the symptoms seem to be intermittent?

The plot thickens. So I'm sitting in it with it ticking over watching the temp gauge and the temp on hondata. Never goes over 86. Start reving it between 2 and 5k for 2 mins and temp goes up to 92. Get out have a look and the water that was in the bottle now isn't. Was on the minimum now it's empty. And it's now cut out and doesn't want to idle

Atleast it's a result, better than not knowing the issue I suppose...

Just seen the plot thickens update.
Not leaking anywhere?
C02 in the water clearly it's headgasket or a crack in something....

Turbo water lines are t'd off either side of the iacv. No leaks anywhere. Seems to be idling ok now.

I feel it's more straws tbh mate.
Turbo was new wasn't it?
Easy test would be to delete the water cooling lines for afew days and see if problem persists. The waterlines are more for shutdown temps than running.

I think so to mate but I don't want to do a hg for no reason. This is f**king my **** right up now though its been sat idling for best part of an hour and it's fine. Temp rises fan comes on and then it drops. Air in the car is hot constantly. I've filled up the bottle with water to the min line. Gonna drive it and see what happens... Block test again when I get back.

Intermittent is odd. Clearly an issue with gas getting into the coolant, your wastegate got the water lines hooked up? Another avenue to explore.
At this point I'd hope it was headgasket tbh.

Nah wastegate isn't cooled atm. Just beasted it up and down the road and temps are low when driving 86-89. 91 when stopped and turning the car (90 point turn). Get back and it idles fines. Fan on and off like before. Water in the bottle up very slightly and blocked again with same result. Head gasket? What else can it be really.
