Teeky's MB6 VTI-S Build Thread *** PIC HEAVY ***

I had my OMP 330mm steering wheel lying around that came off my Jordan, it had seen better days, so I ordered a leather repair kit and gave it a try.

Here is the kit, comes with everything you need, to refurb a steering wheel.
FB_IMG_1553808615074.jpg

And here is the wheel, it has gone shiny and is slightly patchy when you look at it carefully.
FB_IMG_1553808618227.jpg

So I cleaned it up, degreased it and masked the centre up
FB_IMG_1553808620682.jpg

So I used a Red scotch pad that came with the kit, and used the prep solution to key it all up.
FB_IMG_1553808622853.jpg

I then degreased it again, and applied the Dye with the sponges provided.
FB_IMG_1553808625107.jpg

Then I let it dry, and applied some Matt laquer, shiny laquer came with the kit also, and if you mix the Matt and shiny laquer you get a satin finish, I wanted a Matt effect.
FB_IMG_1553808627264.jpg

I then let it all dry and de-masked it, put the horn back in for a quick pic.
FB_IMG_1553808629797.jpg

Finished result, did a pretty good job for my first time, to say I did it less than 2 hours & I didn't follow the instructions
FB_IMG_1553808632035.jpg

For anyone wondering where I got the leather repair kit from it was from this company on Instagram, very helpful, quick replys, and prompt delivery, kit is very informative and easy to use, perfect D.I.Y, only cost around £25-30 if I remember correctly.

So here is my first mod  something subtle but changes the look of the car.

Front USDM style side lights & Rear JDM style tail lights.

I already had the front USDM kit, from my first MB dual filament holders and bulbs, one of the bulbs had blown, and it was a nightmare to find! Someone said that Harley Davidsons came with dual filament lights, so I rang the Harley Davidson dealership in Leeds, and they sent me out a bulb, turned out to be clear! Anyways after some digging I found out what I needed, got it from eBay, 308 Amber Dual filament bulbs.

I'm useless at wiring :nono:, so I got a local auto electrician to sort my lights out, wired the front USDM lights with my regular side lights, heres how it looks, the LED sidelights are pretty bright, it was hard to get a decent pic.

FB_IMG_1553809377605.jpg

Now for the taillights, ordered a JDM style tail light kit from BoltsBolts

Screenshot_20190329-115644.png

wired them up like the "EK9" style rear lights, but got the sparky to wire all 4 lights as side lights, and brake lights!

We did have to drill out the passenger light to remove some sort of refelctor.

Looks mint, transforms the rear end completely, plus the brake lights are more visible.

"Deleted" the rear fog temporarily, will get one soon, got another idea for that :secret:

Before ...
FB_IMG_1553809363957.jpg

After...
FB_IMG_1553809367393.jpg

Absolutely love it!

Fitted some LED number plate bulbs whilst I was at it.

FB_IMG_1553809372149.jpg

Some people say it looks like a Merc from behind, don't know if that's a compliment, or criticism :lol:

Got some of these sick! VTEC CLUB stickers from the states!

If you know you know....

Ignore the dirt lol, gave the glass a good wipe down before I stuck them on:lol:

FB_IMG_1553810891404.jpg

Got the engine compression tested!
After blowing up my first MB, certainly didn't want to Pop this one.

For a engine with over 130k on it I think it's pretty healthy, all the numbers were nice and strong, and all high

Ignore the tacky rocker cover, I'll get around to that eventually lol

Car has always been taken care of, previous owner even went and got a genuine Honda battery for it :))

Bargain of the century!

A friend of mine works at a local Jap breakers yard, they've had a couple of Integra's and a hell of a lot of S2000's and EP3's, I only went in to have a look, see if they had a S2000 gearknob or something lol

Usually people aren't allowed in the actual yard, you've got to wait in the reception area, anyways my mate let me come in, and told me to have a look around and let him know if I see anything.

Had a look around for 10/15 minutes and anything that was worth looking at had been stripped and Everything had been sold, so as I was about to leave, I saw a Red quarter panel!!!, I thought to myself that looks like a Teg, I went over and it was a UKDM DC2 !!! The car was in a pretty bad front end bump, and pretty much everything was sold, and the stuff that was on the car was damaged, or worthless.

The car was underneath another car, so I went over and had a look inside!!

Inside the cock pit, was a set of BLACK DC2 RECAROS:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked: unbolted and just chucked In the back of the car!!!!

I called my mate over, and asked him to find out how much for the seats!

He radioed in to the office, and they gave me a price that I couldn't resist! Either they thought they was normal EP3 seats or because of the condition they were in they just tried their look

I told him to get them out of the car and I'll be back in 5, I shot off to the nearest ATM and got the cash!

The seats were in a really bad state! Hairs, moss, glass and what not!, I wasn't bothered at the price I was getting them at, I could make a drink on them selling them in the same condition.

I later found a couple of pics of the DC2 on the breakers website

Here it is ...

28069361_1x_1_.jpg

28069361_3x_1_.jpg

28069361_2x_1_.jpg

28069361_5x_1_.jpg

28069361_6x_1_.jpg

Literally didn't look anything like this when i found it sat there pretty much as a bare shell, anything of worth or any upgrade for the MB had been sold.

Here they are!!!!!!

My bargain of the century :lol::lol::lol:

I even got the DC2 Rails! With the seats! I was absolutely buzzing :win:

Btw they looked alot worse in person.

FB_IMG_1553811639045.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811641278.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811643431.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811645738.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811647925.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811656727.jpg

So I went down to my mates detailing center, and he nearly had a heart attack when he saw them! His OCD kicked in :nerv:!

He said the seats where a total WRITE OFF, and I shouldn't have even got them!

I had some hope in the seats, and knew I could make them look half decent.

So I got some gloves on and got up close and personal with the Recaros!

*DC2 RECARO SEATS CLEAN / DECONTAMINATION*

Firstly I got all the loose debris of the seats, such as leafs and the smashed glass.

I then put some foam mats on the floor, and opend the seats flat and placed the seats on the mats, gave them a good old hoover that took absolutely forever! With all the hairs and all the moss!!

Once I vacuumed what ever I could, I then used some of my mates detailing goodies to see what magic they would work on the seats.

They did fairly well, but it took absolutely ages and wasn't doing as much of a good job as I thought they would.

FB_IMG_1553811664819.jpg

I threw my gloves off and got my phone out, started searching up how to clean Recaros, I then found a post on EK9 ORG , turns out woolite is the muts nuts when it comes to cleaning the Recaro seats!

So I went off to the nearest supermarket, got 2 black bottles of woolite, which are supposed to be for dark fabrics only, along with 2 buckets, and handfull brushes with various stiffness of bristles lol , and a little spray bottle.

IMG-20190328-WA0012.jpg

So I followed the "instructions" on one of the threads i found , it was taking absolutely ages, and tbh people generally just give the seats a little clean to freshen them up, mine needed a deep clean!

FB_IMG_1553811669894.jpg

Figured out, giving them a little spray and brush wouldn't cut it!

I nicked my mates jet wash real quick, washed the snow foam Lance out, and filled it up with woolite! :naughty:

I leaned the seats against the shutter next door, and absolutely DRENCHED them with woolite, flipped them in every angle and let them soak up the woolite!

FB_IMG_1553811672433.jpg

I then got the brushes and the bottle scrubbed the day lights out of them!, Took absolutely ages!

But once I was done I got the jet wash and blasted them!

They came out absolutely F*ucking MINT!!!

FB_IMG_1553811674622.jpg

"Snowfoamed", scrubbed the blasted the seats repeatedly until I was happy with them.

FB_IMG_1553811676974.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811679063.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811681948.jpg

At this moment in time, the seats where absolutely soaking, and I decided to let them sit in the sun and I'd wet vac the seats as much as I could

FB_IMG_1553811693889.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811696411.jpg

The seats looked absolutely amazing and the hard work paid off! They was still a little wet around the bolsters, but I was worried about them smelling of damp lol

I then decided to get the snow foam Lance again, I got some Poorboy's Pina colada liquid air freshner and poured it in to the Lance (RAW) supposed to water it down lol, and also got some sort of special enzyme, germ killer my mate used on his big jobs, poured that in too!

I then soaked the seats again from all angles with my little formula lol, and then let them dry naturally in the sun, it took well over a week for them to dry propperly.

Once they dried, I got some suede stuff, and sprayed and wiped the seats, to enhance the texture of the seats back to there former glory.

FB_IMG_1553811701035.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811703093.jpg

FB_IMG_1553811705080.jpg

Then to top it off, got my mate to ceramic coat the seats, similar to krep protect, but alot stronger, they became water repellent, and protected for the future.

It took me about 6 hours per seat from start to finish over a period 2 weeks, including the drying time etc.

It's well worth the wait and dirty work lol, still can't believe what I paid for them, and how good they came out.

The drivers side seat could benefit from a new bolster, but I'll get to that at a later date! I've seen alot worse!

Here is the finished result!

Don't mind the blurred label, it's a secret of the trade

FB_IMG_1553811709757.jpg

nice, gotta love a bargain and woolite is great for recaros

think we all need to know how much you got them for!? and why were they left like that in the first place, surely if they're breakers theyd know the value?

and btw that mb6 shell looked perfectly fine in those pictures, it could of lived on but oh well...

Lol let's just say, I didn't pay much more then what you can buy a set of DC2 seats rails for :secret:

Tbh I have no idea, why they was still left in the car, probably forgot about them lol

And the shell was ok, passenger sill was a little rusty, I found out after i got it on the ramp once it was stripped, and started picking it and realised it was made out of cardboard

Top work on the seat refurbishing! my dc5 seats weren't in a great state and had to Woolite mine too, but someone had also bleached 1 seat and turned light green so had to use fabric paint on it too lol lot of work, but comes out fair for what you pay! :nice: I was thinking in my head you're going to have to jet wash those, they are filthy!

Edit: And that MB6 rear EK9 style lights, that's exactly what I've wanted to do on ours for a long time! but never got round to it. Is it a faff to do on the MB? from the pictures, it looks like the top comes out a bit brighter? dunno if it's the pictures. You mentioned reflector stuff inside, I remember my brother doing some on his ek lights and I've done usdm on my coupe, but unsure about MB

Thanks mate, yeah it took a while but it's well worth it lol

The lights are equally bright, don't know why it looks uneven in the pics, get it done mate, it's not that hard as it looks, the way I've done mine is wired all 4 lights as side lights & all 4 as brake lights, looks really good

Got a OEM Honda oil funnel, you may have seen this pic on another build thread on here, my mate Nav nicked it from me #Copyright :lol:

FB_IMG_1553851700915.jpg

At this point I had quiet a bit of parts on order, just waiting for them to arrive lol

Surprisingly the overnight parts from Japan came fairly quick

Wanted a nice oil cap for when the engine bay is complete, had a look at all sorts, almost bought a Spoon oil cap, but pretty much everyone has one, time to be different.

Here it is

Brand new, Genuine FEEL'S Honda Twincam - B series GEN 2 oil cap

Shouldn't have paid what I did for it , but F*uck it lol

My logbook finally arrived, it took longer than usual, for some odd reason.

Anyways I bought another private reg especially for this MB, didn't tell anyone lol

Took it to my mates Detailing place, for a propper decontamination wash, removed the original Honda plates, and went to town.

Gave it a propper bath..
Pre rinse
Rinse
Fall out remover on the wheels and bodywork
Snowfoamed
Rinse
2 bucket method wash
Hybrid coating
Dried it
And gave the inside a valet too

Probably one of the best colours Honda ever made!!

I bought some 4D Laser cut plates. Shortened, but 100% Legal, because my reg only has 6 characters I can get away with a smaller plate.

Took me a while to get the plates bang on in the centre.

The car looked amazing, had a propper wash , with the sun beaming down on it, and finally it was rocking it's fresh set of plates, I was chuffed.

Another one of my favourites

I was after a Exhaust Manifold for a while now, nothing decent came up, I was willing to pay good money for a good Mani.

Anyways I found this

JASMA stamped 5Zigen 4-2-1 exhaust manifold with a true 2.5" Collector

I had one of these on my Jordan, tasty bit of kit!

Also bought 50 meters of titanium heat wrap, not that cheap fibreglass stuff, this stuff is decent!

FB_IMG_1553856491303.jpg

FB_IMG_1553856494052.jpg

So I began to heat wrap the manifold, it was a little messy lol, but I did a pretty decent job for a first time!

That's a pic half of it wrapped!

Anyways I left the MB with my mate for a couple of days, to let him to bits to it whilst I was busy at work lol

All the service complete

Only thing we found was one of the spark plug seals had seen better days, so ill order that for next time

Unfortunately the DC2 TB didn't go on, I needed a EK throttle cable and a Different Bracket to hold the cable! So that was a flop, till next time...

Valve clearances done
