Hi guys, picking up my ek9 on saturday :win: and ill be giving her a full service, and changing the timing belt

whats a good timing belt to go for? i dont want some cheap copy so im thinking something posh (like hks ect) or genuine?

opinions please :)

OEM is the only timing belt to get, OEM honda all the way, unless you have LOADS of money and intend on running a very high powered build get a TODA but unlikely :)

Go for Honda or Gates power grip.

Pretty sure Toda and other aftermarket belts are made by Gates too

ill just go OEM i think, cant go wrong then.

and am i right in thinking the oil filter to use is hamp?

ill be using bosch for everything else

I do the genuine belts and tensioner for £59.99. As said above oem is the only way with the belt

As above, OEM all the way

Good time to change the tensioner spring / water pump too, also make sure you check and adjust the valve clearances at the same time

0.006-0.007" inlet
0.007-0.008" exhaust

Clearances are for a cold engine, you are better adjusting them to the looser setting to avoid potential running problems and worst case burning a valve

ok so oem timing kit and check valve clearances.

any uprated water pumps or anything?

also, any recommendations for gearbox oil?

gates or toda belts ment to stretch instead of break or jump teeths
i would use them if i had aftermarket cams...

i have standard cams at the moment. will fit a better timing belt when i change cams i think

timing belt
tensioner
water pump
tensioner spring

stick with OEM for all of the above

If you are wanting to improve cooling then do so with a larger / thicker radiator, as far as i am aware there is no aftermarket "uprated" water pump available. you can have the fins on the oem water pump trimmed to reduce high rpm cavitation but this is only if you are running silly revs........

timing belt is fine as OEM even with aftermarket cams. an additional tensioner can be added to the exhaust side to prevent belt whip if you were being really fussy

Don't high lift cams and stronger valve springs place extra stress on an OEM Timing Belt - can you explain this more.

yup that extra tensioner (endyn or vibrant) can help with high lift cams !!

nice one thanks mate, definatly looks worth it! i tried a search on google but couldnt find anything.

dont think ill be getting one though, sounds like a good idea but i dont want to lose the power steering
