I've just picked up some Rota Grids 16"X 8j that I'm going to use as track wheels.
What size tyre are people running with this sort of wheel set up?
Also brand of tyre?
I'm after a decent quality tyre at a good price.

I'm on 16x7 mate with 205/45, with 8s you will probably want to go wider? I have advan ad08s on the front and federal 595 rs on the back. Not track tyres but all the same, can't fault the front tyres at all. Haven't had them on track but wet grip on the road is good and dry grip is very very good. Plan on swapping them front to back next week to see how the federals are in comparison.

My front track tyres are 16x8. I have Dunlop dz03g in 225/45/15.
They are a big tyre though and I had to raise the suspension a fair bit to stop the tyre catching the inner wing.
They need temperature to work and aren't very good in the cold/damp.
If you've seen my last brands video compilation you'll know exactly what I mean.
I believe you can get old style r888s in that size and they'll be better suited to colder days as they are a lot easier to get heat into, but on a hot day you can over heat them.

If your new to the track id recommended the ad08, very good tyre just not quite semi slick grip.
A lot of people rate the rsr aswell but I found I'd over heat them on a hot day aswell. For the few laps they were in the right temp range though the feedback though the steering wheel was amazing.

Yeh I've got ad08 r's on my standard wheels and they seem great
I'm new to track so they seem like the best option.
So you think 225/45/16 ad08's are a good choice @jesse888 ?

Yeah if they are available in that size, I wouldn't over look the rsr purely for the price of them tbh. Super cheap for the grip they have.
You could do a day or two on your stock wheels and see how you get on, if you feel your past the tyres limits then you know you want a semi slick for the new wheels?

The Ad08's are available in that size, but the rsr's aren't.
Yeh I see what you mean, I'd quite like to keep my standard wheels off the track tbh.
So the 225/45/16 is the go to size really then? I guess that's what most people use for track?

I believe most will still be small tyre like a 195 or a 205 on a 7j.
