Turbocharger coolant feed and return lines from rad hoses?

So I'm a bit stuck for fitting my coolant lines to the new turbo.
I can't use the drain port on the block ad the turbo is in the wrong place to get any fittings to work.
Now I'd much rather not buy more an line and more fittings to Plumb it round to the iacv.
Had the idea of tapping the top and bottom rad hoses for the feed and return respectively..... but something is niggling at me that it's not going to work as I first imagined.
Anyone with a science reason as to why not?
Any input appreciated as always.

Problem I can see with that is that the coolant won't flow until the thermostat opens?

I originally thought this aswell, however garrett released a paper on turbocharger cooling and stated that on air cooled engines all you needed to do was set up a little radiator and some lines. They say that if the lines are routed properly then a thermal siphon is created and that circulates the water....

T it off the heater take off point on the head below the thermostat or if it's a small pipe you could use the factory temp gauge sender port

I like the temp sender port idea! I run aftermarket gauge anyway so don't really need the stock gauge.
I'm running 8mm line so an6. I'll see what sort of adaptors I can find.

Do we know off the top of our heads what the thread is on the temp sender in the head?

I think it's 1/8th but I'm not sure if it's npt or bspt like the oil sender

It'll be British standard so I'm after 1/8th bspt to 6an or barb fitting

This thread has just given me a massive brain wave... (still having temp gauge issues) on another note tho jesse if you have the hose already don't spend more on fittings just buy two barb t pieces and a couple old jubilee clips. I did mine with fittings mate and it's mega over kill. If i was to do it again I would just use t pieces from the plumbing section at screwfix.

Just going back to the original idea of tapping into the top and bottom hose, just a thought but wouldn't the coolant take the path of least resistance, ie the rad?

I'll be having another look at this today. I'm hoping I can go with b16 minis idea of using a port on the head.
I realised a problem though, I've got my aftermarket temp sender in the bottom hose(top hose has an inline filler in it) so if for some reason the stat doesn't open I won't know about it until it's likely too late.

I've got a suggestion for that issue as well,

Let the pictures do the talking...

I've got some T piece action on the way but tapping the stat housing is the next plan for the aftermarket gauge. Not a necessity right now as long as the stock gauge works

Been a bit busy today but I think my T piece trick is going to work. All depends on clearance on the hoses but time will tell.
