Most of you will know this but just thought id share in case anyone is planning on doing this

My car is fitted with MB6 hubs at the rear so the wheels stick out a bit more
Previous owner fitted spacers at the fronts think about 15mm?

Anyway thought id torque up my nuts yesterday just to check them
The rear needed a little extra but the front were a bit loose
A couple of them were so loose i could turn them with my finger!
Started to tighten them & found they still didnt feel as tight as they should be
As in i could easily turn them even more which i didnt
A couple of the nuts actually sheered of the thread inside the nuts

After some searching on this forum i removed the spacers
Replaced the damaged nuts & happy days feel nice & tight now

So if you want to fit spacers fit extended wheel studs too
Im very happy i caught this before i had a wheel fly off!

Max I would ever use on oem studs is 5mm and I don't like cheap light weight alloy wheel nuts.
Dunx

Echoing what Dunk said anything over 5mm thick and you really need to fit longer studs.
Anything bigger than 5mm should also be hubcentric as well so you still have the locating ring for the wheel machined into the spacer.

why people risk it is beyond me, ive seen the aftermath of what happens when they do. An ep3 loosing a rear wheel at 70+mph, for the sake of a few mm of poke. not pretty that's for sure. :wow:

Rule of thumb minimum amount of thread require is the relationship to the diameter of the thread. I.e 10mm thread screw nut on atleast 10mm 16mm thread at least 16mm etc etc

i use extended wheel studs and do not use spacers at all...:p

I don't think the use of spacers is ever really thought about properly, oem's spend millions on getting suspension and geometry correct for someone with no idea to ruin it all fitting a set of wheels with a silly offset or with spacers. Maybe should have read up on scrub radius first. Here's a good article all about it

that being said the offset of oem ek9 wheels is crap! lol

15mm?? Suprised there was even any thread left to even get the nut started onto the stud!

Manufacturers cut corners everywhere they can to save money. That has to be one of the most annoying statements someone can make, to claim that Honda designed every ek from the start to handle like a super car. Of course there are improvements to make, at the end of the day the civic chassis was designed as a daily shopping trolley first and foremost

In what part of my first post did I ever mention anything about super car handling? It's not rocket science hence why I posted it, its basic suspension geometry. Yes your right a shopping trolley with a multi link, double wishbone rear end usall found on a lot higher end cars. Think clio, corsa, fiesa do these have a multi link rear end? Your ek4 ek9 is not a whole world different to an ej9 (shopping car) other than thicker roll bars, better brakes, stiffer dampers etc, the basic suspension setup is nigh on the same but more importantly the geometry will be right, ie the contact patch of the tyre in the right place in relation with the upright, suspension leg and bottom ball joint, not hella flush, stanced with bad man spacers ya get me bruv.

It completely depends on the wheel I ran 10mm spacers with 15" rota slips and was fine my dad tried them with his 16" rota slips and he literally had one thread lol.

So the hubs from mb fit but are wider correct? Just I've a 96 spec teg an need a rear hub as ones got knocked bearings

Been hunting a while for a rear hub an no luck at all
