The two guys that I co-own an S13 200sx with are getting a little bored with it, and scoping out options for different steeds for our off road racing kicks. Needless to say the S13 is brilliant fun on the grass/gravel courses, sideways everwhere even with gravel tyres on, however it is slow. For the type of courses we run, it is a big car, too long for some of the twistier sections and really just a bit too powerful to put the power down effectively.
We want to get back into the competition for next season, but don't seem to be able to settle on a replacement.
Main competion at these events is:
Mk3 Golf Gti 16v w/Quaife
Mk2 Golf Gti 8v
205 Gti Mi16 w/Quaife
205 Gti 1.9.
Clearly FWD is the don, and LSD equipped FWDs are the cream of the crop, however given our budget, we might be limited on what we can get. We're basically looking at sub £500. Best suggestion so far has been a mk1 1.6 MX5, small, lightweight and still RWD so plenty of fun if we are off the pace. Other less visionary suggestions have been a Mk1 MR2 (going to be immensely difficult to keep on the limit) and a non turbo 2.0 Impreza. Although 4WD, with a measely 128bhp ATF when it was new, it's would probably only be putting out 80bhp at wheels now, so barely enough power to break traction but still dragging a heavy transmission around.
So, EK9.org, do you have any ideas? Open to any suggestions, FWD/RWD or 4WD. A honda of some sorts would be awesome, but since they are so overvalued, it's unlikely we'll get anything in budget.
I am seriously considering sourcing some mudguards and a set of dirt tyres for the EK4 and using that as a solo venture, it has all the winning ingredients of the front runners as well as having proper suspension...
What to do eh...
