What would you call this part?

Hey. So I know of slam panels and bumper mounts, but obviously neither of those are this thing (see pic).
Previous owner was an old lady, and she parked by touch... so this arm I've circled is a little... bent.
Ta!

No response, noice.
Since Google has actually linked to this forum with questions I've had in the past, and at least half of them were simply left dangling... unanswered, I'll strive to keep my ones updated and include an eventual answer if I ever reach one.

So! With regards to this question, it looks like both the pre-facelift and facelift versions are in fact meant to have a bar across the front. The part has the bar connected to those two 'arms' and the grey metal piece under the headlights. The metal arms both slide in from the top and then have 1 bolt holding them in place. Facelift one is different to pre-facelift.

Voila. Hopefully this helps a Google searcher in the future. :nice:

No response is possibly because people don't know...

The part diagrams have "stiffeners", "extenders" and "outriggers" around there. Can't quite figure which it is though

you are aware this forum isnt that active anymore, and this is a question your average owner will not know.
also to fact check you, no they do not all have crash bars. (thats what the bar across the front is called for those googlers) it is spec, year and region depending. as Klasse said, could be called one of those, your local honda dealership should help you with that.

Ahha, cheers guys.

It's maybe been a while since I've had a car I loved enough to join a forum for (previous being an MG ZR160 that I got from new back in.... well, years ago). I was on the MG forum pretty much every hour of the day. I guess it's a dieing medium now with the likes of stuff like Facebook.

So not standard on all is interesting :( Means there's at least three varieties, haha. One with the stiffeners, one with the pre-facelift crash bar and one with the facelift crash bar. oof. Since they're part of a crash bar, I will just aim to find one of those

Progress on the car (and my nagging in the forum) will be slow at the moment, because there's more focus on renovating the house. I'll try to keep progress posts coming whenever I've done something though. :nice:

Those bits that stick out are extensions (number 10 and 11 on diagram). The stiffeners (12 and 6) are the bits that bolt to it with 2 10mm bolts that allow the headlight to slide on to.

Just saw this now otherwise i wouldve replied earlier.

If you do need prices for anything or help parts related, Message me, Im in parts at a Honda Delearship. (and if you want prices for loads of bits and dont actually going to order any of it then dont waste my time)

Should you not be able to source one, it looks like it would be a pretty simple task to bend it back to the correct shape - although I say that as someone who works with metal everyday

It's gone like... flakey rusty. (I live by the sea and the old woman I bought it off lives.. well, lived a few doors down).
I did however find a 4th! variation, rofl. (this part of the car is crazy). it's the two arms connected with a tube. It a little like the rear light weight chassis stiffener you can get too. So now sourcing one of those rare bad boys, otherwise I'd prefer to get the heavier, but more solid, bar.

So thanks a lot @spikeyhairdude for that image! I found another similar diagram but it didn't seem as accurate as the one you posted.
and thanks @iRELOADED for that suggestion :)

I'm hoping to get the rear bumper off this weekend to see what atrocities are hidden behind there. I'm still in the process of making sure the main body shell of the car is sound before investing too much into it. Thread to follow, haha.

Ooh, that could be useful. and yeah, fair enough. I do like asking people 'in the know' for advice and always feel guilty if it won't actually bring them anything back. It's a two way street, after all.

I have just noticed you signature though! Which I will bookmark as it's what I'm hoping to do at some point :) Only at the stage of saving as many guides as I can, because I doubt I need a full engine of either and want to save money where possible (ie: not buy a full engine when just a head or small block was actually needed.)

If I contact you for parts, it would most probably be because I've not found any (or at least good ones) online. I'd prefer to keep this Civic on the road, rather than add it to the ever growing list of cars being broken down for parts :(

Right, hahaha. I found some funky looking crash bar on eBay (never goes down well, right?) and the guy was claiming it's from a 1997 Civic. I managed to get one of my front wings off and put one of my facelift headlights in (held in place with two screws)... now, when I put this crash bar on the car, it doesn't really seem to follow the curvature of the lights at all :/

crashbar.jpg

What's odd is, the parts that connect to the car, line up with the original parts where distance is concerned, but none of the bolt holes line up. There are little 'tongues' behind, so it sort of clips in place, but it's not strong enough to hold it in place.

So is my EJ front panel wrong or is this piece from another Civic? :(
I can't find it online anywhere. I checked EG, EJ, EK and EP... none of them seem to come with a crash bar like this!
(I can post more pics of it if you want. Some showing how it sits under the light, etc. It's an intriguing piece if I can get it to fit)

I'll have to poke @spikeyhairdude again for the best chance at identifying it :p
Man... I'm gonna owe you so many drinks :nerv:

Fgs... it's pre-facelift. Still, it doesn't fit with the pre-facelift lights either. Mate found it in search, but the link didn't work ¬_¬
I'm still searching.

Yeah, no probs. Cheers! :)
The eBayer wrote back, saying it was from an MB and even attached a photo... I pointed out that he should add that info and the pic to the listing when he relists it. ¬_¬ (He'd simply written 1997 Honda Civic)

I wasn't even aware of these Civic codes... Too glued to the hatchbacks I think. EG, EJ, EK, EP, FN...
I had some cover though, as he'd actually written to me prior to sending it out and asked what Civic I had. I said EJ, doing facelift and he wrote back confirming it would fit. *shrug*

My search for a nicely priced crash bar, continues :D

Wow... well no wonder if it's coming from the US
I did try a few people on eBay and Facebook today, that are breaking EJ/EK Civics. One guy got back to me and has the full facelift crash bar for a decent price, but can't ship it. Ain't that always the way.

Cheers for that price check though. It's always nice to have all options on the table :)

But it says 'origin USA' :/
Wasn't the K20C1 also made in the USA but was never for their market?
(Genuine interest, not being a smart ass... although that is my default mode :busy: )
