So I’m off to the states later in the year and I wanted to take this opportunity to purchase a new final drive and replacement syncros. I had pretty much decided on m-factory but would like to no if anyone can recommend any other easy to find manufacturers in the US. Also if any member state side are reading, can you recommend any suppliers in north FL

m factory would be my choice, depends what car is for ive a 4.9 final drive and love it

It's pre-facelift ek9 used mainly for trackdays. Which FD would you recommend, the 4.9

If you want a 4.78 final drive, you can buy the oem honda one, if you want a 4.9 final drive get the mfactory one. :)

m factory get my vote, i got the 4.78 FD and lightweight flywheel and the quality was top!

Gear-X have really good gears too

Id be a fan of the standard brass synchros over the carbon lined versions , hold up better if you happen to miss shifto

Think I'm going to swap out the FD and go for the mfactory 4.9fd, is it worth considering replacing 5th for a longer gear to retain cruising speeds if I ever decide to put it back on the road?

That'll be down to your preference mate. I run oem s4c ratios with a 4.7 final drive and I jut drive slightly slower on motorways to keep revs/noise down.
If you fitted a longer 5th gear there would be quite a large drop in revs between 4th and 5th if you were driving fast.

you need the same parts if you go with mfactory 4.7 fd ?
or first gear and parts are needed only for the oem 4.7 fd ?

Mfactory make final drives to suit 96 spec or 98 spec S80 , so buy whichever to suit.

But you will need the first gear , collar and needle bearings for the OEM 4.7FD and most JDM final drives like OS Giken , ATS as they were designed for the 98 spec S80.

:nice:

Aren't the carbon synchros more durable?

They maybe for a high power gearbox build on new gears , but for the average box standard brass are perfect , no need for the added expense... although the marketing execs. will say different :D

I'm a little confused now. If I was to purchase a mFactory 4.9FD and brass syncro's, for a s4c box. What other items would I require?

Are you replacing bearings , seals , ? Has the box been opened to see what it needs ?

thank you very much !!
oem 4.7 fd and its apparel stuff cost more than mfactorys 4.7fd for 96 spec gearbox....
