Which OIL recommended for the B16b

Ok thanks for that. Will be putting a order in soon when my brother gets his sponsor sorted with use :)

car has been previously run on 10w-40 semi synthetix mobil 1 oil. its doesnt burn a drop but its due an oil change and i'm getting new gearbox oil as well and curious to know would it do any harm switching to a full synthetc 5w-40? as it should have better start up protection and help keep thing cooler. looking at Torco SR1 or something similar anyone any suggestions?

Anyone had any experience with Mobil Super 2000? I noticed on the thread that Mobil 1 has been used but not this. Would Mobil Super 2000 10w-40 be ok for a Spoon Stroked B16b?

Im not 100% sure what the previous owner ran, I had Shell Helix 10w - 40, it ran well but on long journeys at high revs and then VTEC aswell it used it quite quick. Now its got a different brand of 10w-40 but appears to smoke more on occasion when giving it some abuse, generally puts out smoke after VTEC has been used and then back off the throttle and apply throttle again, even from lower revs, its not a constant stream of smoke just a 'puff' as such. Could this be due to oil been used?

The reason the oil is getting used quickly is likely to be because it's mineral based. If you switched to a full synthetic, the oil consumption should drop. As your car is modified, you really should be looking at a full synthetic rather than a semi synthetic

Hi,

Thanks for the response. What oil would you recommend for my motor? The previous owner said they use semi-synth which is why I used that. I see you sell several different manufacturers on your site, im a bit confused which to go for

I'd look at one of the ester based 5w-40s or 10w-40s, like the Fuchs Pro S, Millers CFS, Redline, Gulf Competition or Motul 300v. The Gulf is a bargain at the moment, but an offer is starting on the Fuchs in a couple of days (buy 5L, get a litre free)

5w-40 engine oil | 5w40 oil
10w-40 car engine oil | 10w40 oil

Cheers

Tim

Ok thanks for the reply, will have a look at those. I presume its fine to switch from a semi-synth oil to these ester based oils?

I'm going back to 10w 40 next find the 5w 40 Pro S burns to much

Going to try Motul Chrono 300v

Im stuck between the Gulf 10w - 40 or the Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5w - 40 . My car has always ran on 10w - 40 so im swaying towards the Gulf. Anyone used these oils? Seen on the thread a few have used the Fuchs, some say the engine burns it quick, some dont, I guess its down to each engine and driving styles? Sorry for all the questions.

Unfortunately it's really trial and error until you find something that works for you. 5w-50 will give better cold protection, but a lot of people are convinced that a 10w-40 doesn't burn off as quickly as a 5w-40, even though they are the same viscosity when hot. Up to you, both are top quality oils.

Cheers

Tim

Thanks again for the reply bud. Think I'll give the Gulf a try, seems a good price at moment aswell :nice:

Im now running the Gulf Ester Synthetic 10w-40 Oil. Quick delivery from Opie, the oil itself im very happy with, not getting smoking issues like I was before which I suspected was down to the previous oil I used, also doesn't appear to burn it much either :nice:

are out there fake oils ?
like a replica of motul 300v or ams oil etc ??
recently my local oil supplier told me about fake oil of well known brands in the market !!:nerv:

Yes there is, not something that is really a problem in the UK though as we can get the real stuff.

Well after reading all this it seems there isn't 1 definitive Oil recomended for the ek9.

I have had my ek9 a couple of months now and after spending out on sorting out a few little problems I now want to give it a full service.

I have no idea at all what oil it curently runs. It is used mainly as a daily driver (will only see the track once or twice a year) and is completly standard.

Would Motul 8100 5w40 Fully Synthetic be recomended or would a semi synthetic be better? or maybe a 5w30? Can the Oil man help?

Also, I would like to change the oil in the gearbox. Whats best for that?

Thanks
