Whirring noise from gearbox area

As above really, its like a whirring/squeaking noise. At first I thought it was one of the belts, but its not that.

It goes away when press the clutch pedal just enough to take the slack out of the pedal. Was going to adjust it so that there was no slack, but looking at my workshop manual, it says the slack's meant to be there?

The clutch was replaced last month. The clutch fluid needs replaced, so gonna do that tomorrow. Any suggestions on what else it could be? Going by what it says online, it doesn't sound like clutch release bearing failure...Feel free to correct me if im wrong though.

Thanks :nice:

Mine makes this sort of noise. Goes once you've pressed the clutch down?
Not too sure what it is, noisey bearing probably

Yeah mate. As soon as i've taken up the freeplay in the pedal, its gone. Sometimes its barely there, and sometimes its really loud.

Sounds like it could be gearbox bearings

Apparently release bearing still whirr when the pedal is depressed? A few other people i know are agreeing with Boyle, apparently its the gearbox bearings. **** sake.

release bearing?

Opposite symtptoms to a release bearing...
The release bearing is only loaded/spinning when the clutch pedal is depressed.

Sounds like input shaft bearing. That will have the load removed when you press te clutch down.

probably release bearing, however check the clutch and flywheel to if you take the box off just to make sure theres no underlying problems.

Can someone explain to me why they think it's the release bearing?
The bearing isn't under load with the clutch pedal released :S

the play is taken up when the bearing contacts the clutch pressure plate. the bearing makes the noise when there is no load on it

But generally if it has play the noise would be worst when the clutch rests on it and its spinning at 1000+rpm? Surely?

Where as when you depress clutch pedal the ISB stops spinning hence noise disappears.
Two ways of looking at it...

Yes I agree it's most likely the relece bearing.

If the gear box input bearing then under light load at about 70 it just sounds like loads of road noise that changes note when you lift off.

Dunx

So if its release bearing you wouldn't hear it when driving along or under light loads?

Definitely sounds like its the release bearing from the above comments. On my way home tonight i couldn't hear when i was driving, but as soon as i stopped on the driveway and stuck it in neutral, it started whirring.

I know its a gearbox out job, but how much of a pain is it to do?

EDIT: I was being a retard an misunderstood what you guys said.

dude did you read the above comments?

pint of ale says your clutch release bearing is shot

I wouldn't rush to change parts that you aren't 100% are faulty.
As I said mine makes this noise and I have had my box in pieces, the bearings where fine.
All im doing is keeping an eye onit and making sure it doesn't get too much louder.

All it will do is get louder and easier to diagnose.
My ISB is loud, but I hear it under load.
And it doesn't stop making noise til I fully depress clutch pedal.

From others comment, yours sounds like release bearing.
Clutch kits can be had for £165ish for OEM
