Y21 LSD ?

Hey guys,

Trying to get my head round the idea of mixing and matching other parts from the other B series boxes to get a good setup.

Basically the way I've looked into this I want to fit a 4.7 FD and LSD from a DC2 into my EG's Y21 box as overall it's going to give me the best acceleration I can get whilst still retaining the B16 and not having the 98 spec 4th and 5th gear jump that I seem to see many people complaining about.

The car itself is an SiR model but unfortunately it didn't have the optional LSD added.
First off its it possible and relatively straightforward?

What parts do I need apart from the LSD and crown gear? Also what is the whole ordeal with the PCD of the Crown wheels ?

@Horsetits im pretty sure LSD won't fit in y21 casing only fits in S4C and S80 casings! your best bet is to get a 98 spec S80 and then fit S4C 4th and 5th to that saves yourself a lot of hassle in the long run!

This or get a Mfactory 4.9 FD and torsen. Depends on your budget.
 
@JohnTurbo im pretty sure the y21 shares A similar casing to the cable y2/y21 and I personally tried to fit LSD in and didn't fit!

But LSD fit in non LSD s4c casing!
 
There are hydro y21s with lsds fitted.

I am not convinced that non-lsd hydro y21s and s4c arent identical.

Further I think it looks likely that all hydro gearboxes are identical other than ratios, fds lsds.
After all the s80 having dual synchros is famously bollocks.
 
Yeah I know they came with optional LSD in y21

I tried to fit LSD in both cable and hydro boxes as I had some lying about and didn't fit in cable or the y21 that came out a eg I had a good while back! Not arguing over it just saying what I've found and what's the best option other than spunking over the odds converting a non LSD to LSD just my opinion at the end of the day
 
Well if everyone is swapping 4th and 5th gears in an S80 98 spec because they are in fact longer tells me the only plus side is the FD being 4.7 that's it. Surely it's easier to just fit the 4.7 final drive to these other boxes instead of swapping over gears?

The Y21 SiR box has closer 4th and 5th and the same 1,2,3 as most other B series boxes including the 98 spec. LSD casings are slightly different I've been reading and it's something to do with certain machined lugs for oil not being there on the LSD boxes. I've been reading people grind these away on the non-LSD boxes to and LSD.

I think I should really only need the crown wheel and pinion and lsd and it should fit.
 
^its easier to fit 2 gears then fit a new final drive, but theres not much in the difference.

you can fit an oem lsd to a y21 non lsd box but you have to shave off some of the inside of the casing, iv done this to 2 boxes with no problem.
 
Yeah I ground out 2 or 3 webs and a bit of the casing to accommodate the LSD only way to fit never finished putting it together as I sold the car! But it's easier to get a good healthy LSD box to start! But it's up to yourself what to do!
