I've not been yet. Is an evening session, I'll likely not update until tomorrow though as I'll be coming home and then straight to bed (work early mornings)

Updates or else

:wtf2:

So.
Fix one issue and two arise.
First issue I turn up to the gate at brands followed by a cloud of white smoke. That seemed to pass then came back later on. Single solitary puff on very light load nothing on boost or revving it stationary literally just happened twice. So not sure what to make of that just yet.
Next issue is a missfire, I'm hoping new plugs gapped down abit more will sort this. The missfire stopped the day really as I didn't want to keep pushing it with it missing.
Brakes where great just a shame I didn't get the chance to really hammer them. Should get a sneaky video in either tonight or tomorrow.

Found two decent pictures of the car taken by randomers.
One in the pit garage,

And another on the pitstraight.

Having had time to digest what's going on with the car I've decided a new set of plugs gapped down alittle more than my iridium are atm is my step to fix the missfire issue. My plugs are the originals I bought when I first forged the engine iirc so a good 7k old. Fingers crossed for that one.
The smoke, such a strange one. The car didn't burn any oil and hasn't done since it was built at a minium of 3000miles ago, so I'm all but certain it isn't that. Possibly coolant, I do have a minor leak and it does lose alittle bit, if it's coolant getting in then that's either headgasket or a cracked sleeved, although track abuse you'd expect to see the issue develop but it hasn't. Was fine the whole drive home.
Going to park that one for now and see how it goes.

So service items bought from opie and then it's back out for brands GP!

Been doing some diagnostics on the car, mainly checking the state of parts like the dizzy and checking the cam timing incase that's a tooth out or something causing my issue. Compression test results are interesting....
When I did them mid way through my learning to tune (still learning mind) the results where
(I keep notes on my phone to remind me what was going on and reason for test etc and this is just a paste of that)

Engine compression test results 28/04/16
Cyl 1: 195psi
Cyl 2: 205psi
Cyl 3: 205psi
Cyl 4: 210psi

14/08/16
Engine compression retest after strange white smoke. Engine ran until fan kicked in, throttle open.

Cyl 1: 210psi
Cyl 2: 218psi
Cyl 3: 210psi
Cyl 4: 218psi

Readings are higher now than last time and more even across all four.

What's interesting is that the readings are higher across the board than last time? I doubt the engine is any more run in now than it was the first test tbh so I'm not sure what to make of that yet as I was concerned for Cyl 1 up until now.

Service done,
Well it definitely appreciated new spark plugs/gaps, old gaps where 0.7-0.8mm and the new gap is 0.5. It absolutely screams through vtec now, I'm quite surprised just how much difference it's made to the 1 bar boost setting. Also no smoke on the test drive so more waiting on that to develop.
It has developed a strange stumble/judder when pickup up the throttle. Like a jerk no matter how smooth I bring the throttle in. Doesn't always do it but more often that not, also I get a deadzone in the pedal every now and then, scares me because after a pull the first say 5% of the throttle doesn't do anything so I'm thinking it's dead everytime lol
Maybe the gaps are the cause of this, again, time will tell.

Getting abit behind with this, will get the videos and pictures of both days up soon as possible.
Brands GP though! What a track that is! Completely changes the whole feel of the circuit and surtees(turn 4) is a complete bitch to get right in GP layout. The back section is pure nurburgring with bumps on apex, blind turns and great curbs! Love the curbs lol

Look forward to the videos! And looking forward to the ring trip! Not long now!

Yeah I have a few small issues to work through that's popped up from the GP day.
The engine coolant overheats, was reaching 100c in 6mins so that's no good for a lap of the ring. I think the thermostat only half opens so hopefully that's the case and it will be a simple fix.
Driveshaft oil seal leaks, tegiwa sorted me a set of those so that's a job for this week.
I've got a new distributor coming from HondR, I beleive my power loss issue may be down to one of the sensors in the dizzy acting up, causing quite a severe igniton timing change and robbing the engine of its power. This wouldn't help the coolant issue either so double whammy if I'm right.
No smoke at all though, so that's a moment of madness afew weeks ago it seems and should rule out engine troubles as the reason the coolants getting too hot.
Worst case and I've not fixed it by the time we get to the ring, I'll run it with no stat and lift the protection limit afew degrees to get the car round. Should hopefully last the 8-9minutes we will need before the protection kicks in. Can always short shift abit too if needs be.

Brakes are really good! My confidence on them has sky rocketed compared to the OEM setup with the same pad compound. Heel-toe isn't really an issue either so that's an all round win with the brakes. I really let myself down on the brakes last year so that's a good improvement.
I'd say I'm comfortable with the car at 8-10ths pace now. Although I'll take it easy at the ring as I plan to have fun this year rather than chase laptimes and break the car.
Thinking back to this time last year the car has come a long way and I'm far more comfortable at the wheel now than at the ring last year. No more snappy oversteer, lsd doesn't pull me around anywhere near as much, brakes don't go soft and the rear doesn't lock far to easily. It's all together more stable everywhere and we've not got to the power it now has (don't plan to use it at the ring)

Sorry about the life story, will get videos and pictures up tomorrow after work. Not sure what laptimes I was setting at GP but I went there to have fun with it, which I did.

Sounds like you're on the case man.
What size is your new rad compared to the dc2 rad?

Glad the car is feeling good, I think I've got a spare thermostat that I can bring along, I'll be bringing lots of spares just incase.
You'll probably find if you enjoy it and forget about numbers the laptimes will fall anyway.

Good stuff! :))

It's alittle thinner than the dc2 rad. Smaller in size aswell. May well be the rads size but if I'm honest, I doubt it. 30+c day didn't help either I'm sure.
Yeah bring spares, I usually get abit crazy around ring trip time, bought a spare gearbox once lol

Well if you want to bring any spares stick them in my van:nice:

Nice one bud! Having tools trackside will be a bonus aswell, usually have to drive all the way back to hotel when I break it lol

I blame the go pro for the slowness and the coolant temp for the short shifting lol

Looks like you were going well mate!
Was it an mgb trackday!?!? They were everywhere lol

It was lotus on track with mg owners club thrown in on a sessioned trackday. So I was out with the Mg. They where pretty slow as they where all old boys, got told off for jumping down the inside on a braking zone so was hanging back behind them alot and using the straights
