Honda Civic 23L Special Edition - Kanjo style

Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Terence, but you can call me Terry. I'm 18 and currently drive a Daihatsu Sirion and a Honda Civic, which you're about to see. And yes, if you notice my number plates, I'm Irish.

My first car was the Daihatsu. As a true Honda head, I wanted to own a Honda of course. Bought an EJ9 and did some work on it. Stripped it and did some repairs. In the end, I lost interest and because its a common car, I wanted something a bit more unique.

Sold the EJ9. Organized to meet a guy, who was selling an EF1, on the same day. Went to his place and saw the car. I was stunned at how clean it was. But there are some issues... Like no battery, but for the price, I cannot refuse!

Brought the car to Tuning Factory, on the bed of a truck. You can figure out why... The car is not running, but we went straight under the hood, to find out what the problem was. First we took a battery from another car. Did a compression test and it passed. Changed some crusty and very black spark-plugs, then turned the key... And it came to life!

Bought a new battery for her.

Here she is. My pride and joy!

Put on some new wheels, wrapped with Toyo Proxes R888. Some new wheel nuts. Shocks and lowering springs from a DC2.

Not bad for one day of work. Still not low enough!

Cut the springs and I know its not safe! Only temporary.

Its the day after New Year's Day and time to get cracking!

Took some photos of what I'm missing. Pocket and parcel shelf.

Here's some photos of one of the issues... Rusty sills!

Steering wheel installed by previous owner. Seriously had to go. Swapped it for one from a CR-X (Temporary).

Found the plastics, for the speakers, were loose. Car had no sound system... Lightweight!

Grabbed some rear seats from a DC2. Fitted them into the EF. Needs modifying.

Looked upstairs for another set of rear seats because the one before was sun-bleached. Cleaned it with Autoglym Interior Shampoo. Stuff is like magic.

Cleaned the rest of the interior.

Shift boot was torn, so it had to be changed.

Couldn't find one from a Type R. Will have to do for now.

Backrests didn't need to be changed. Fitted like a glove. Took out the bench for some modifying.

Took the fabric off the EF1 bench. Look at the size difference. Gonna be a challenge making it work.

I cut the old fabric off with some snips because it was useless, but I saved it if I wanted to wrap something. Since I don't want to ruin the fabric from the DC2, was faced with these things... Also known as death to your hands.

Before tackling the whole fabric swap plan, hung my good luck charm and fitted an Impul gear-knob.

Here goes nothing!

Here is the fabric roughly stretched over the EF1 bench. Hands are in serious pain.

Time to finish the seats.

Was definitely worth the effort, but still a reasonable gap. Still an improvement from the DC2 bench anyway!

Bought some JDM goodness.

Took off the UKDM bumper and here's the comparison.

Had to take off the wheels, to get to the screws on the mudflaps!

If you're wondering what wheels I have, here's the name of them. Came off a Honda Logo.

Rusty, but much better condition than the JDM one. JDM has been tapped in the past. Need to swap these.

Here's a test fit. Looks better already. Kanjo style!

Removed the rear wiper for a cleaner look.

Took garnish off too, to prepare the car...

Heaps of EF bits in the boot.

Fitted a grommet, to fill the hole from the missing wiper.

Picked this up today and so happy about it.

Was given this as an apology, from the guy I bought parts off. He said he scratched the garnish. No worries!

De-badged her. Going for clean look!

Finally going to put an end to the rust!

Going to remove the tint another day. Need to show off that factory bronze.

Time to remove some tint! Here's a photo of the car.

Peeled some off, to show you what the sun has done.

First window done. A lot of glue left behind.

Difference.

Second window done. Not as bad as the first one.

This one was the easiest. Small bits of glue left though, but still a good job.

Bronze tint restored!

It was a good day today. Sun was out. Time to find out if I have that factory bronze! Here's my uncle's CR-X. I know it has bronze tint for sure!

100% convinced I have it! Finished rubbing all the glue off. The Autoglym stuff worked and didn't leave a bad odor behind.

Took Benny's advice and took a photo of the car in the rain, with somewhat bright light. Bronze!

Snow! Wasn't too bad in Lucan, but still freezing none the less!

I'm going to go with a Cusco Satety 21, so I took out the seats and junk. Kanjo style!

This takes me back to the days, where I owned an EJ9. Bad times. So glad there was no sound-deadening. Praise the old school! Still need to sort out the bumpers.

Still need to take out the plastics, but the space! So much!

Took off the mudflaps because I scraped them, going over bumps. Who needs that extra weight anyway?

Dry weather, so drove the car outside. She needed fresh air!

Glass needed a polish, so got right on it.

After some elbow grease, 10 year-old or more Turtlewax Glass Polish, laid down her first sticker.

It was dark by the time I finished buffing the glass. Got great results with that old Turtlewax bottle. Sorry for poor lighting!

Brought the car back in and took a quick shot.

Bad weather...

Removed the plastics. Had a hard time figuring out how to.

Couldn't get it to tilt at all! Its like its welded on one side.

Stumped on how to remove the rear seat-belts. Help.

One more photo couldn't hurt.

The build will be paused, until I buy the roll-cage. Will be selling parts to earn some money.

Time to do surgery on my EF.

My uncle finally had some free time. Got the welding machine out and the EF was ready for revival.

After some time and looking away from the sparks, it was done. Plate-welded and grind down!

Same for the other side now.

Happy that the car has been given a bit more life. Here's some shots I took. Happy to die with this car!

Next, some body-filler and then paint.

Rear bumper had really rusty bolts and nuts. Couldn't remove the metal frame, the appropriate way, so got the hacksaw out.

Lip was in bad shape. Glad I have a genuine one in my room.

Wing taken off. In pretty good condition, I must say.

Looks really weird without the wing.

Contemplating on whether to remove the headliner and plastics for the pillars.

Continued on stripping the EF. This is the only thing that's keeping me from progressing.

Removed the interior light. Do I have to remove the mirror too?

Really need a place to store all this.

So much space! Ready to take out the carpet.

Just when I thought this car was free of sound-deadening, guess what I found...

Washed the door panels with Autoglym Interior Shampoo. A bucket of water and sponge makes a huge difference compared to only a cloth.



Got my Bride fabric! €30. Not bad.



Wondering which part of the fabric to use...

Picked up this EF9 wing today. Absolutely delighted with it! Can't wait to install it.

Went down to Tuning Factory with my EF9 wing. Put it on and it doesn't fit.



Still looks better than the standard one before.



Going to cut the rubbers along the glass, so the wing can fit properly. Trying to get my hands on a dremel.
