my long term ek9 project (gearbox repairs 16/11/)

Great work mate, glad you are not filling up any holes keeping it look OEM!

Cant wait to see more progress on this...

ok, the previous owner told me the gearbox crunches going from 3rd to 4th at high revs. so I ordered the 3/4th synchro hub and rings from synchrotec and set about repairing my s4c, I am a firm favourite on rebuilding my own kit rather than pay some one else to do it.
anyway a few pics...
casing removed

selector unit and reverse idler removed

the bearing on the end of the main shaft came off with little problem, followed by the 5th/reverse gear assembly just the 3rd/4th hub needed a bearing puller to remove from the splines on the mainshaft

fresh new goodies

but unfortunately the synchro slider is absolutely kettled :( so another piece I need to order

a quick old/new picture of the synchro rings

I need to order the slider and hopefully get it fitted so I can refit the box to my engine.

cheers for the comments guys, yeah I am going to keep this as close to oem as possible so my son can appreciate it when he turns 18 (he is 5 now lol)
I have another civic I am on doing, that one is being treated to the smoothed/shaved look

great attempt at the painting man, something i would love to try eventually see how hard it is

I would love to be able to diagnose and fix a b series transmission by myself.

Good job! :D

First time I have ever done a b series box in all honesty, I have replaced a layshaft bearing in my jazz gearbox but never removed gears/synchros before.

Awesome!

what did you have out of place?

I couldnt get the little clip thats at the top to sit into place.

So the box wouldnt close properly but turned out it was bent

S0 wasnt my fault in the end an i thought i had put it back together wrong but i actually hadnt haha ah well i was just nervous of it tbh

Fair play anyway man

Jeez, I hadn't realised it had been that long since I last posted.
I have a few updates on the 9, I haven't had as much time on the car as other projects/girlfriend and work kept getting in the way.
anyhow some progress..
engine bay painted, now its time to put it all back together

i'm not overly keen on the bay loom on ek's so I decided to do a mild wire and abs tuck

much better

started to reinstall the a/c set up

drop the lump in

wiretuck all secure

can't believe how clean the sills are on this car, most ek's I have been in contact with have been pills...

next job is to tackle the minging interior..

then (fingers crossed) it will see tarmac again soon :)

right progress, the car is on the road and passed its mot with no advisories, just a recommendation to change the rear arb bushes.

the rack was leaking from lock to lock, I thought It was the seals, so I removed the rack with the intention of resealing it

once the rack was apart, it was evident the rack needed more than new seals :(

so I bought an ek4 vti rack locally and fitted the ek9 pinion gear into the rack along with fresh rack boots and track rod ends.

sitting pretty outside pre mot

so I have put a few miles on it over the weekend.

keeping her out the rain at work

and every where I go, someone always has to push me down the road .......

new M2uk back box fitted, amazing backbox
