as above . how would i make an ej9 go around a corner like an ek9? seem weld and ek9 suspension parts im guessing? please help me out :thanks:

buy a ek9:win:

wish i had the money haha, iv been lookin for an ek9 shell but there near impossible to find in ireland. but a 98 rust free ej9 came up for 400quid all it needs is a grille tax and nct. and i have a spit and a welder so if i do buy it and throw it up on the spit and stiffen up the chassis with a few welds it should go around a corner considerably better yes? if it worked on me s13 it should work for this.

Chassis on an ek9 is seam welded so thats your starting point , then from there a mountain of things coilovers, camber arms, tie bars etc

yea so seem weld it and ek9 standard suspension parts and a few braces and it should handle somewhere near the same id be guessin. but theres no way in finding out until i do it haha

Ek9 is not seam welded, just a few stitches under the rear seat area

It's quite a vague question IMO. Better than a standard ek9 or a modified? If you just do the usual crap like coilovers, strut bars, anti rolls and so on. You'll be good

wish i could just do the usual but i cant im not normal i always have to take it to the extreme haha

Don't forget the LSD. Probably more important than any half arsed 'seam welding'

a few spot welds under the rear seat and a few spots along the inside of the rear arches ye?

Yeah pretty much, if you want ek9 handling then you need a LSD

so you are trying to build and ej9 with ek9 parts? you may as well go aftermarket imo. i would only do ek9 parts if i was to work on a budget.

then from there a mountain of things coilovers, camber arms, tie bars etc

All of which may improve the handling of a wallowy shopping trolley, but none of which will make it handle like an EK9.

To list but a few things:

Chassis re-enforcement.
Subframe re-inforcement (front and rear)
Sunroof removal
Sound deadening removal
EK9 steering rack and PAS pump
EK9 Braking system (everything, prop valve, ABS system, the lot)
A B Series engine swap with an OEM helical LSD.
A suspension setup made up of a 22 or 24mm rear bar, a 26mm front bar and some decent dampers. OEM, Spoon or Bilstein would be a good bet, along with some decent progressive rate springs that in combination with the bars give the same roll stiffness distribution as an EK9. Sounds ****, but you cannot truly make a car handle like an EK9 without doing this properly.

I spent a few thousand doing suspension work on my old ek3, and it still felt like the front and rear of the car were detached. Save up your money and get a 9 if you really want something that handles like one, nothing else matches up!

cheers for all the replys boyo's im gonna keep an eye out for an ek9 now by the sounds of it no point goin thru the hassle of tryin to replicate a 9's handlin

I still dont get this placebo of the EK9's almighty handling.

Surely if you were to do all the things as Kozy listed it would basicaly be an ek9 or better depending on how far you went.

Only difference in the chassis as far as I was aware was the reinforced rear subframe, extra stitch welding in the rear area, front+rear chassis braces behind bumpers. Then the rest is all just upgraded suspenssion, steering, brakes and such.

This is a subject that is actually really bugging me as im yet to drive an EK9 myself and im in the process of doing prity much all of the above to my EG6.

Dont try and make your car something it isnt. If you want 9 handling save your money and buy a 9. If you want the best from your own car then invest into that. Replicating something that it isnt is just stupid imo

I think the point is its not about making is handle "like" an EK9, just as good as one.

When you concider an EK9 will set you back at least £4000 for a half decent one. If you have bought an EJ, EK or even EG for only a few hundred then Im sure £3500 plenty just to make it handle and go as well as a standard EK9.

An MB6 will only set you back £500-800 which will give you a B18, lsd box, 282/260 brakes, 1" MC and Proportion Valve all you need then is a set of EK9 or ITR shocks/springs or better ie spoon spring, bilstien or just a coilover setup. Then get some chassis seam welding done, a few decent braces (or just a cage). Dont for get to get a shorter FD for the MB6 S9B box or a shorter box. New set of bushes all round or a hardrace kit. Camber arms are not really needed unless you want them. And there you have it, a Civic that should be no different in handling (if stock EK9 parts are used) or even better than an EK9 and should even better with the B18C4 if you spend a little on bolt ons and a remap.

I do get the whole "just buy an EK9 point" as Im quite tired of explaining what an EG6 SiR is myself, when poeple only know of a Type R or EK9. And building something up from scratch is time consuming and can be costly if labour is done by a garage.

But I really dont get why people think an EK9 will alway handle better than any other older or lower moddel civic. It just doesnt make sense.

Maybe im missing something here. I really need to have a good go in an EK9, But as far as the facts of the chassis state they are no that much different.
