I wouldn't hassle freeing it up, just get it refurbed. Freeing it up probably means it will stick soon enough again.

And gains will be optimal when tuning the rest of your exhaust and intake.

oem and hamp should be both fine. hamp doesn't cost more though and rises the oil pressure slightly.
