i have crashed my type r. i am devastated but after the initial sadness i have thought through it and i might be able to save her. what i want is your opinion on this. due to the fact that this is still under investigation by the insurer i am not providing any details. the facts:
i am assuming i will have to replace all parts that are not metal under the bonnet. what do you guys think of the chances of survival for the engine? would it be a matter of cleaning it up, replacing the burned parts and thats it? how can i check the engine and box without installing it completely and trying to run it?
what about brake lines etc that are metal, would those still be useable?
i am thinking of steam-cleaning the interior after i have taken it out and if that is not enough, ozone.
how big is the chance that everything under the dashboard is still intact?
are there any other considerations?
thank you very much for your help. i am devastated by this, have been really sad since the crash and i hope anyone can help. rebuilding the car would really help me.
- nose of the car is a bit shorter
- the path of the sliding car was mostly parallel to the road, not to the side of the road where the nose hit the barrier
- chassis damage looks bad but i think it looks worse than it is
- wheels etc still seem to be straight
- the car had cought fire under the bonnet. it has gotten pretty hot under there but not for too long. airbox is party molten but you can still see it's form e.g. lots of things are black though
- the windshield has cracked due to heat, after the crash it was still intact
- first the fire was tried to contain with powder, but when that didn't helped water was used
- there was a lot of smoke in the cabin but no fire
- from what i remember the engine was still running before the car stopped
- i do not live in europe; therefor i can tell you that a type r will easily cost 1,5 times as much as in the uk
- i want the chassis to be checked by a professional; if it's possible and worth it to repair i will take everything off and put everything on when he is done with the chassis to save costs
