no signs of det. i dont think that's causing any issues. you say the rings are fine, so piston ring gap isn't causing any issues. its gonna be p-w clearance. you know what it should be, just get a 3rd party to measure what your engine builder bored it to.

have you got any pics of the tops of the pistons? unless the quench areas are causing det, i doubt they'll affect it.

If you're only doing the assembly, and you've used the same machinist/engine builder for every engine, and they've all had the same issue, then get another engine builder to measure the engine. The problem 'could' lie there. Having another engine builder measure it will rule out if any tools...

Are u running oil squirters? If it were a lean tune, you'd have scoring above the top compression ring. What's the scoring on the bore like?
