3rd gear crunching


Had same problem..Changed MTF 3 same prob..Ok when cold but crashing after a few miles. Opened the box and replaced the syncro and is perfect again. Also seen them to crack the wire ring on the syncro

mine crunchs in 4th only at high revs i changed the gearbox oil to mtf84 but it still crunchs???????
 
Mine crunches into 3rd at high revs aswell, slight whine out of it too mianly in 4h/5th, tinking it will need to be reconditioned soon:angry:
 
my gearbox was a little crunchy and rough not long after i got my 9

i spoke to a few people and used amsoil MTF, it is superb, the box felt new afterwards, smooth and crunch free

used this on other cars too since and the feeling is the same

i also have over 20 tubs of the stuff right here if interested
 
As I mentioned, changing fluids is just a temporary fix i.e A band aid

If you really don't have the money to sort the issue out, fairdos, but if you can afford it, seriously, fix it now while it is still "affordable".
 
3rd gear crunch is a very commin problem in hondas, even the 06+ modles get it after some vtec, changing syncro's is the best but again it wont be long before its crunching again(unless you get a good aftermarket syncro)
 
My box crunched into third, when i replaced the oil with some honda mtf3, it has been fine ever since
