4.7 FD or 4.9FD ??

Hey lads ! was just wondering whats better for my setup ? a 4.7 with shorter 4th nd 5th or a 4.9 final drive ? any body with experience with either of these ?
 
Go for the 4.7 or shorter 4th , 5th depending which S80 it is.

4.7fd into 96 (J4D) = 98 (N3E) with 96 4th and 5th .

A 4.9FD is a waste of first gear IMO , leaving you with less useable gears , depending of course what you use the car for
 
id only be using it for racing ! i wouldnt be on the motorway much ! would the 4.9 increase my acceleration ??
 
Here check out this link, will help you calculate your top speed on particular setups. Need to decide what size wheels and tyres you use, also what rpm limit is set in your map. Lots of different factors, if racing only, Mondello is not a high speed track and mostly 2nd 3rd and barely 4th all ways around so needs a bit of thought, its also why Honda's do really well there.

haha, oh right well for motorway racing would want long gearing for high end speed, thats bold though ! :p The calculator will help you anyways.

For a 98 spec box you already have a 4.785FD, so 4.9 would be more logical.

I can't however condone your 'racing on public roads' though :nono:
