As above lads/ladies.

Looking for info on final drives. found a fully reconditioned s80 box (96 spec) what sort of f/d should i go for ? He said he can provide a 4.7 f/d from a 98 spec box.
would i be better off buying a 4.9 f/d an put i in while the boxs out.

Opinions please on the topic :)

Thanks

check the stickies at the top of this section, there is loads of info in them mate! one thing i will say from experience is that the 4.9 is pretty hardcore for a daily driven car but you go through the gears that much quicker. all depends on what you want for your car...

go on the mfactory page, all the info is there

4,78 is great, bit pain in the a,,, on the freeway on cruising at 120km/h ...

imagine the 4,9 too short, you will be on vtec while cruise on the freeway.

you will need a ton on gas .....
4.9 on a b18 is too much i think on a b16 it would be ok.

from my memory with the 4.9FD 80mph is around 5000rpm. it would be awesome with a B18C its just if you can put up with the higher revs day to day.

I have a 4.785 on my high comp b18 that's a 190whp and I actuall think a 4.9 would still be fine. The 4.7 is superb and acceleration is greatly improved but the high comp engine makes is much better. No issues at all about raised revs and motorway driving. I vote 4.9 :)

im the guy with that gearbox! i couldnt get my hands on that 4.7 :((

im heading up to galway today tho to check out a few damaged gearboxes so all goin well il have a 4.7 this evening! il give you a text l8r when i look at the gearboxes and let you know the story!

hmm dont think so i cruse on freeway at 125 kmh with 4.9 fc and i have 4.6 k rpm and i have a normal b16b 5th gear you can install 4th and 5th from the 98 teg spec r wich are a bith bigger and you will be fine

I have the mfactory 4.9 FD in my ek9 B16B and its amazing, motorway miles are fine! since my vtec is set at 5.2k after a re-map I am in vtec at 80mph in 5th! :) lol

Really? I found with a 4.7fd mpg's went down compared to 4.4fd when driving on motorway due to the extra revving. What ecu you got?

interesting read...really got me thinking now.
Is everyone just changing the FD and leaving the actual gears OEM spec?
Or are there people only changing the gears and not the FD?
Or both? Or I guess it depends on user.

the ek9 and 96 spec itr dc2 gearbox's came with pretty short gears as standard so as a road/track car most people just put in a final drive and get a decent amount of extra acceleration.Tho for a track only car most people go for the gears as it makes a bigger difference, but isnt really suited for a dd

Thank you for the information kellsled.
...while playing with the Mfactory calculator just now, I got all the info I needed as far as FD change and gear change effects. Very interesting stuff here as I will have a 4.4FD but only a max speed of 126MPH, lol. But I will be able to get to the 126 faster than most...I hope.

yea MPG isnt all that bad from standard. I have a P30 ecu mapped on crome. At todays prices of v power petrol I fill a tank for £45 and I get 300miles with conservative driving! lol I do motorway milage every day!

300miles that's not bad. Should have your tuner set low load vtec point higher that will keep you out of vtec at part throttle save some more fuel:D

not conservative driving its more closer to 200 miles tho! :( lol good point mate, may do it in future when I get my own house to save pennies! :))
