Got reversed into by a taxi a week and a half ago, scuffed my front bumper, and pushed it back and cracked under my headlight. The guy wasnt too bothered as it looked like nothing, but it's my pride and joy and I've literally just had it painted. The guy gave me all his details, let me take a photo of his photocard license, reg, address, phone number etc. I've text twice and called and heard nothing as of yet. The guy said he was happy to pay for damage and not to go through insurance, which tbf I would've preferred anyway!
I've been to speak to the bodyshop across the road from me, and it has stress fractures in, that they think will keep coming back now. So advised I'd be better of with a new bumper. Honda no longer do them apparently, which is a massive pain!!
The bodyshop think I should go through insurance as I've still not heard anything. It was a council registered private taxi and the council couldn't do anything but give me the owner of the cars name and address. I'm reluctant to turn up at either address, and I did orignally ask the guy in a text for £150 just to get it resprayed, but its worse than I thought.
Not really sure what to do.
I presume even if i claim through his insurance, mine's going to go up too?

Aye, it counts as you making a claim. Your NCB (unless it's protected) will be affected, plus your excess etc.

Try to settle it away from insurance as, even if you have to dip into your own pocket a wee bit, it'll likely work out cheaper.

It's a shame that's how it is, but insurers are quite happy to pat you down for your money and mug you off. Sorry to hear about the bump though :/ hope you're alright

I agree, even if you have to get a used bumper and get that re-sprayed. It'll look brand new after anyway. :)

No. Yours may go up slightly, but it won't affect your no claims if it is through his insurance.

My family members no claims got affected by a bump that wasn't her fault. But that was over 10 years ago

Either way, hope it gets sorted :)

No, if his insurance co pays for the damage in full it will have no impact on your NCB. Since he's not replying I'd go through the insurance, you'll probably be better off anyway.

If you go through insurance then you will have to declare you have been in an accident for the next 5 years, regardless of fault,

This means your considered as higher risk, therefor your premium is increased,

If the guy is not replying, get a friend to book his taxi then confront him when he arrives

In case of non fault fully recovered accidents with no personal injuries there's hardly any (if any at all) increase in premiums, this is from my personal experience.

you got any witnesses as it will greatly help or any camera evidence. The problem is that if you go through insurance and there are no witnesses and that guy changes his story to that you went into the back of him then its your word against his.
Sorry not trying to scare you but i have seen it many times that the party in the wrong always admit blame on the spot then totally change their story once adrenalin wears off.

dependng on the claim handeler and what ins company you are with buddy can sometimes be better to try settle it outside insurance
