Well once I get my run around on the road the EK9 will be coming off and getting some TLC

So far I'm changing
Valve stem seals
Cambelt kit
Water pump
Clutch
Toda flywheel (hopefully)
Spark plugs
Oil filter
Rocker cover gasket

I think that's all that's arrived so far.

Has anyone got any suggestions about what other stuff is good to do while the engine is out? friend suggested head skim, head gasket.

Hopefully I can fit the engine in the run around so could take it places to get work done maybe.

Not looking at spending millions just handy stuff to do while I have the chance but want it done properly.

just a Standard B16B with mani and exhaust.

Any advice would be great
Thanks

personally i would as ive done already to my own car is change the piston rings as well as the valve seals, also check the pistons for wear when your down that far. most people will say not to change the rings if the car isnt smoking but how sickened would you be if you dont change them and maybe a few hundred miles later down the road your car started to smoke and you have to change them then... get the head skimmed by about 10-20 thou would be plenty and fit a new head gasket then. in doing all this you can be sure your engine will be checked over fully. fuel filter might be due a change as well.

New inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets would be handy while your there

You running a baffled sump? If not new sump gasket along with a baffle kit is never a bad thing, theres some good cheap baffle kits on ebay, I've bought a couple from there off Tegiwa

General service items and gearbox oil change would go down nicely aswell

Yer this is a good point I will go as far as I can with the engine but I think I will be sending the engine off for this lol. But will look into getting hold of some rings.

Also, now I'm no mechanic I will be the first to admit but iv read when changing the stem seals even if you use the proper tool that you will damage the old valve guides?? is this the case will I have to buy some? literally all I have got is the stem seals. Sorry if this is a dumb question

Fuel filter is on its way :)

What tool? Valve spring compressor? You will need one of those to squeeze the springs down so you can pull the collets off and then remove the springs and then carefully remove the seals, if you don't have to dont remove the actual valves but if you do make SURE you put them in order and they MUST go back in the same hole they originally came from.. Maybe the only benefit of taking the valves out would be to re-lap them in in a attempt to stop any compression/combustion leak, it will only really need a relap if there are any pitting on the valve seats or on the valve recess where the seats seals too

Hope this helps bud

Yer unfortunately I guess I will have to be buying one of theys just expensive. Is there a how to thread or anything for this I have looked but cant find one... have bought a book on how to rebuild the B16B though so that might help.

Helps alot appreciate putting up with the stupid questions lol

Iv seen a few thing about having to order the next size up on the instinct rings because of distortion of the bores? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Is it worth me measuring up before I order them?
