Hi,

I have just bought an AEM Fuel/Ignition Controller (FIC) and have to wait until next month for it to be fitted and put on the dyno.

I am curious if anybody has used one of these or heard anything about them?

:thanks:

hooray!! im so excited, this is a new part that just came out. i dont have the FIC but i have the aem ems, and its my understanding that the two are very similar. like the FIC is basically a piggyback version of the ems that controls air/fuel/spark but has less features than the ems, but its a lot cheaper too. can you tell us what features it has? how much was it? this should be an excellent alternative to those no wanting to spend 1500+ for a stand alone.

im guessing it should have 2-step launch control, adjustable rev limit, user defineable knock retard?

The AEM EMS costs 1900 euro over here and the FIC only cost me 500 euro so there is a big price difference.

I have pasted the features below for the FIC:

Percise Fuel Delivery

The F/IC intercepts the signal to the stock injectors, allowing the user to modify pulse-width by +/-100%. The F/IC is the only piggy-back system that can decrease injector pulse-width, allowing the user to drive larger aftermarket injectors* while still maintaining proper air / fuel ratios. This powerful system can also tap into the factory injector signal and work independently to drive up to six (6) additional injectors

TIMING RETARD CONTROL

The F/IC has the ability to retard timing by intercepting and delaying the outputs from the cam and crank position sensors to the engine- with no adverse affect on applications equipped with variable cam timing. The F/IC can retard timing from the factory system based on engine RPM and load inputs.

SENSOR CALIBRATION & CONTROL

The F/IC can also be used to recalibrate / clamp the MAF sensor, eliminating common problems with non-boosted factory MAFs. The on-board MAP sensor allows for proper fueling in boosted applicatons.

I will have this installed on October 10th...

i find the onboard maps sensor an impressive feature :nice: the aem ems dosent even have that, i had to pay $100 to get an external one.

interesting, aem ems is expensive but also some seriuos kit, tonnes of work needed to setup etc and more features than most people will ever need, only really needed on full on race cars or crazy builds

looks like new unit is aimed at getting hondata/power fc/greddy market share, intersting to see how this comes along and what tuners think of it

power FC is more like aem ems, hondata is a catagory of its own imo. the aem FIC is more like the emanage ultimate.

:nice: agreee although power fc doesnt come close to latest aem ems ( im runnin power fc and sold aem ems as way overkill for what i needed)

the ultimate isnt really known but supposed to be very very good (also bought but decided to stick with the power fc which i already had purely for £ reasons)

end of the day thousands of cars out there all runnin different setups so just one of them personal preference things

Eddie who is fitting it for you? Im from Ireland also:nice:

I have it booked into Track Day Performance in Wicklow. Its the only place i know that fit parts like this.:)

Just letting you know that i havent forgot to post the results. The company that is fitting the FIC for me realised (the day before it was being fitted) that they had not got the correct software for the install but im told it will arrive any day now.

I am also thinking about fitting a 4.7 or 4.9 final drive. Should i get this fitted before the FIC is put on the dyno or would it make a difference?

For anyone wanting the ultimate ecu, PRO EFI is the one. AEM ems is good, but has far too many parameters for no reason. Too fully set-up the AEM you need to spend alot of time to get the most out of all the features. There's always something you can do to make it work better no matter how long you spend on it. But not to worry the PRO EFI is going to hit the tuning industry hard and will be everyones top choice for ecu. Its better then motec or autronic and is a plug&play application. To stop taking this thread of topic, ill post a new thread about the PRO EFI if anyones interested?

Eddie- Definately get your car tuned after the final drives installed.

tuning isnt needed after fitting f/d or gears as car should be tuned anyway to rpm's so fitting above is irrelavant to tuning

also no such thing as best ecu as often down to tuner preferences

I dont no if you've had experience in this, but when you change the final drive to something abit more drastic. The engine will perform at different engine loads. I no what your saying about every rpm tuned, but the load will be different. Sometimes you can't notice it and sometimes you can. I had one person come back for a re-tune, because his car started to miss 7k and above.

And yes, its best to go for a ecu which your tuner is more comfortable with. But in reality if your a good tuner, you should be able to tune any ecu, because its the same principle all the time. If I tune an ecu which ive never seen before, I read the software user guide. To no where everything is and im good to go. And in my eye's there's always an ecu which is good and which is bad. If you knew the features of the pro efi, youd understand where im coming from.
