Apexi Power FC Commander error

Found this on another site....

When i turn the ignition on, the apexi power fc hand controller shows the apexi logo then just sits there!!! why is it doing this? i cant access any of the menus or do anything with it!

Is the commander the right one for the ECU? I know that problems can occure if they are not 'paired' up.
Has it ever worked?

The Power FC and Commander were bought together and were working about 2 months ago, its only since the car has been off road i noticed it doing this.

Check the connection between the ECU and the HC - the pins can easily get bent.

Dunno if that helps in anyway, but it seems this guys froze like yours after being sat around for a while. I dunno how long yours has been stood for.

Other than that, do you know anyone with the same unit as you? You could check the controller from theirs on yours.

Sorry I can't help much more atm.

had one do that on my mates rx7 this morning it was teh connector between teh hc and teh ecu coming loose,,

I found this:

There are at leaste two versions of the PFC, and their commanders are not switchable between them. It seems you have a mismatch between PFC and Commander.

I will call tomorrow apexi usa :nono:

I double checked the connection and everything is ok :(

have you just fitted it ? was it working fine before if youve had it a while ?

I recently fitted it :(

I found this:

When you use an incorrect model hand controller on a PowerFC unit the hand controller will freeze at the Apexi Logo. I believe this occurs as during boot up the hand controller sends a "hello, ping" to the PowerFC using a specific CRC function (or possibly a shared key based on the model). The PowerFC replies with a preset "shared key" to suit that unit, such as an rb26 skyline shared key. If you are using a different hand controller then the packet is scrambled or fails CRC and boot up fails, the result the Hand Controller stays on the Apexi logo. The PowerFC will still work, it just means that you can't use the hand controller. The most common "in the wild" occurance of this we have seen is the first generation PowerFC's 2.x 3.x 4.x and using newer model hand controllers. There are quiet a few version "variants" in the wild and below is a list of them. This is taken from my own "in the wild" experience and what's on the Apexi site. It is by no means a perfect model list and it could be wrong or have errors/mistakes.

Well! bad luck!

where did you buy the apexi form? iots just that there is a load of them on E b a y at the mo for the EK9 and i was thinking of buying one after seeing how good they are on the RX7,

I believe the ECU was already installed and he bought the controler seperately.

That is **** luck dude, But I'm sure Apexi will be able to guide you. ;)

dont mean to thread hijack, but has anyone on here bought an apexi ecu and hand controller from the man on ebay at the moment, seems to have a large amount of them for sale..............

i have one i might sell, the one on ebay will cost £466 including postage plus you will have to pay import duty and vat, really depends how much he says its worth when he sends it,the one i have also has the obd2b conversion harness, if interested pm me.

so what happend rvm? did you get the right unit? was that the problem?

Nope, my commander doesn't match my apexi power fc, so I'm fu... 100 $ sent to the garabage can!

Update, bad luck of mine! check out what apexi usa said:

The Commander I got is an older unit, Part # 415-H001. The start of the Commander Serial # "FCC2" tells what generation it is. It is compatible with a FC ECU Serial # starting with "AH01". That Commander came with an EG6/EK9 ECU but should work with any Honda box that starts with AH01.

Your FC ECU Serial # begins with "AH04" and needs a newer Commander - Part # 415-X001 or a Commander Serial # starting with "FCC3".

Masaki said there are quite a few of the early boxes out there, but internal hardware upgrades make cross-compatibility obsolete.

Damn it, haha I lost some $$ here

hmm, didn't manos need a commander? I'm sure someone might want it, put it up on ebay.

What model is your PFC? It's for 96spec DC2 right?

thanks EK9turbo.

Well guys, unfortunately my commander is not compatible with my ecu, so now i need a FCC3 commander, hope to find one cheap!

My PFC begins AH03 do I need the 415-x001 commander? as I was just about to buy one before I read the probs RVM had.
