as some of you will know the problems i had with some cams...for the time being im stuck with a set of cams from a b16a2 in my b18c6 because when i purchased the OB'freakin'X cams i sold my type R cams (i knew id regret it some day).

can anybody recommend any cam gear settings for these cams (usual bolt ons, pr3 pistons, 11.6:1 CR etc.) with the piston geometry of b18c's in mind? i am looking for top end power but dont want a slug up until 5000rpm either..

also which springs should i use for the intake valves? i am obviousley going to use type r springs for the exhaust but for the intake i heard that b16a2 springs are slightley stiffer due to the heavier intake valves which im using as opposed to the c6 as i have found a couple to be slightley bent (coincidentley from the ones with the cracked retainers aarrrgggghhh obx!).

note: i will have my rev limit set at stock b16a2.

thanks in advance!

For top end if you retard both inlet and exhaust that will move the power band up
I have not used the b16 cams but with the itr cams i was set to 2.5 degrees advance on the inlet and about 0.75 degrees
But with only 2degrees retard on the exhaust it pulled after 7k rpm felt awesome in forth gear
Hope this helps

Just leave them in stock position... you need a dyno to set them up properly. Either way though, you'd be waisting your time. Just install them temporarily untill you've found a better set.

Thanks for the replies guys, i think i will start by advancing the intake and retarding the exhaust by 0.5 degrees at a time until im happy with all round performance..any advice on the valves springs?

Btw rich, why do u say 'id be wasting my time' with b16a cams? Surley it should make a slight difference to the power band even though they are inferior cams compared to b18c6's?!

Iirc the type R exh springs are the same as the b16 inlet should have blue paint??? And don't think there stiffer,
Id start with couple of degrees at a time mate bit quicker, I started with half at a time and took ages,

Nah, there's more to it than you probably think. At the end of the day there's only so much lift and duration on a cam. Just leave them, trust me... save up for itr/ctr cams...

No, both b16a2 inlet springs are green, also the c6 inlet spring coil diameter is smaller than the exhausts' and b16a2 intakes' which supports what i say about being softer than b16a2 inlets. I squeezed both in my hands without knowing which is which and i kept finding the softer ones being from c6.

Yeah il stick with these until spring when i start my b20v build and fork out for a set of sk2s1 or some similar blox.

Do you think it will run too rich with the b16 cams, i mean like fouling plugs and exhaust popping from unburnt fuel?

It may run a touch leaner/richer in certain area's under WOT. Other than that, providing closed loop is on, or the ECU is stock, you'll be fine.
