Hi guys i have a problem on a b16a2 engine that when you get to start the car (when cold only) it will start normally and revs go up to 1200 when idle but when you get to press the accelarator, it just misfires and backfires for around 3-5 seconds and then it revs normally. It keeps doing it untill the engine warms and then its fine. But when its on idle and you press the accelarator it just won't go immediatly only when cold.

Any help please? Thanks.:please:

No no my friend. To be honest im a mechanic and this car is of a client. Now what happened was that this engine was on my ek4 and it used to do it a couple of times when i had the engine and i used to throw a bottle of fuel treatment and used to come ok. Now i sold the engine and made a swap on an eg from 1.5 sohc vtec to a b16a2 (my ek4 engine). It was ok for 2 weeks but now its doing it again. I just removed the injectors and took them for a good clean and we'll see how it goes 'cos i have a feeling that its from the injectors. What you reckon?

Could be possible. Is the fuel quality bad in your area? Have you checked fuel pressure at the rail? Might be no harm to change the fuel filter if not done already

Yeah fuel quality is very shitty in Malta so it could be the problem. Tommorow i'll have the injectors nice and clean and put back in its place and see how it goes. Shall i let you know how it goes or will i be waisting time?

No mate won't be time wasting at all. Might help another member in the future if experiecing the same problem. Good luck with it:nice:

Clean injectors did not solve the prob.. Not even little difference.. This car is driving me crazy...

my car used to have the same problem...cold starts until i changed my fuel pump. The fuel pump i had did not supply enough fuel. Once i changed it i had no more cold starts:D

no more cold starts? So your engine is always warm? But if its the fuel pump it does it even when warm. Why it misfires and backfires when cold only?? That is the question!! Help me :please:

Check what readings your ECT sensor is giving when
cold it could be faulty giving the ecu a signal that the engine is warm when
cold.

well the problem with me is it would have cold starts becuz the previous motor was a single cam and the fuel pump it had was not supplying enough fuel at the initial start. So it would misfire and the only way it would idle normally is if i gave it gas. I purchased a walbro fuel pump and after the installation it started up normally and havent had any cold starts since. I tryied alot of the "simple solutions" and that was the only one that gave me a result. The temp is normal by the way...
