b16b...185bhp

well i know that dynojet brand and dyno dynamics have 10% difference in reading...

Dyno Dynamics reads 10% less than the widely used dynojet in US. My friends B18C with basic mods made 152whp.

bhp(brake horse power) is the actual engine horsepower. As soon as your car stars moving, 10-15% of your bhp is lost due to friction in order to be conveyed to the wheels :(. I'm not sure whats the conversion for turbocharged cars though :nice:

hmm, I thought that HP and BHP are a different measure of units.

US E46 M3's website states power figures of 343hp (which is equivalent to PS figures) where as that figure is calculated to 338bhp/252kw in AUS and UK. No way it makes that figure at the wheels... I know it makes only 252hp @ wheels over here in AUS on a dyno dynamics.

For example, B16B makes 185PS which is equivalent to US 185HP, but in BHP figures it's only calculated to 182bhp/136kw.

Isn't HP = PS and Bhp and Kw another measure of units?

Check this out.

my understanding was bhp is hp measured at the flywheel. when a car company advertises HP they are referring to bhp. unless i see whp i always assume its bhp.

hmm, so whats this thing about horsepower and metric horsepower? It's definitely NOT whp and got nothing to do with it..

Yea, car companies always advertise the car's bhp and its common sense why they do this. Also who says that his car produces a certain horsepower meaning whp and not bhp? :D
Personally, I prefer to say that my EK9 makes 185 bhp instead of saying 165 whp. I also like my clock to read km/h and not ml/h :D
Bigger numbers make bigger impressions

in that case im going to star measuring my member in millimeters :nice: and instead of hp why not use mp? monkey power that is, a monkey can do 1/3 the amount of work a horse can do in 1 hour which is 1hp so 1hp=3mp so i can say my car has 900monkey power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:wow:

Oh, I forgot, there are some cases where bigger numbers do not make bigger impressions. For example, 1 dinosaur(tyrex) = 100 horses in terms of power. So, 1 dp = 100 hp. My EK9 is the first 1.6 L N/A car that makes 1.85 dp!!! :lock::lock:

are you serious, is there really a conversion from dp to hp? cause the monkey power thing i said was real, it was actually reshearched.

LOOOOOL!!!!!  I thought you were joking, of course and theres no such a dinosaur conversion mate. :angry2: :D Man....that's funny. So, the research says that 3 monkeys have the power of 1 horse?

How much do you think dyno results will be affected by the altitude?

In my country this is an issue, the dyno is located like 3000 feet + above sea level, the results are less WHP compared to the dyno in the other country that its at like 200 feet + above sea level. :nerv:

hi everybody, i am very concerned about my ek9, at the moment i have a custom exaust and a mugen air box. i thought id take my car down to the rolling road and see what bhp i have got. they did 3 runs and the power was 164bhp which is crap. i dont know why my car has lost horsepower there are no lights on or anything.

does anybody know what could be wrong with my car or what problems it might have....??

thanks Jordan

First off give the car a good service oil ,filter, fuel filter ,new plugs +check gaps.second, get a compression test or leak down test done on the engine to check its ok ,third, is the custom exhaust 60mm through bore ??the reason i ask this is alot of 'custom'exhaust makers have a nasty habit of putting 2''or 50mm exhaust systems on ek9's WRONG!! they think because there only 1.6's this is ok but it will kill your power, this has happened to 2 of my friends with ek9's now both were around 50mm custom exhausts and both KILLED power on the 2 cars check this mate if your in doubt bin this system and get a 60mm exhaust system from a reputable maker e.g.spoon,mugen,buddy club,j's racing

oh :( yeah monkey power is real... hp just means the amount of work 1 horse can do in 1 hour, a monkey can only do 1/3 the amount of work a horse can do, so to tripple your hp and call it mp is accurate :nice: hoooray for monkey power!

Dyno cost 75$(US) for 3 runs
I had 173 wwith PCT AEM short intake and Mugen silencer, ITR B-pipe.
"STOCK" I say?:woot:

it is a 164bhp at the fly wheel which i think is low considering it should be 185bhp. I had a problem which my distrubutor cap and rotar arm so i took the whole thing off and replaced it but when i put it back on it might not be in the right postion so the timing could be out..?

you need to re set your base ignition timing, i am thinking its a few degrees retarded and loosing you power. if you took teh whole distributor off and did not mark the position or re set teh timing afterwards its quite like ley the ignition timing is out.
