so I have a ek9 rally car and I’m looking for a bit more power. As this is a rally car I need to keep it as a 1600 and can’t turbo it. It currently has a standard B16b engine with whales induction and 2.5” stainless de-cat exhaust and close ratio gear box. What do people think to changing cams? Is a larger throttle body and intake manifold better than throttle bodies. What about exhaust manifold? Car had Hondata fitted so can be tuned to get the best out of any modifications.

Gearing if you haven't already done so

My bad missed the part on gearing.
I would change the whale intake,
Itb's are difficult to set up correctly, need a competent tuner and to make the most of them a highly built engine.
Ported head and inlet will have more gains with head work.
As for cams higher compression will be needed to make most use of them including valvetrain.

ive tuned a B16b with skunk2 tuner 2 cams. that didnt do too badly, over 200hp with peak power at 9200rpm.

What was the rev limiter set to Jesse? I take it it was stock bottom end?

We left it at 9200rpm, standard bottom end.
Seems like an unused potential having rev limiter set to peak hp. But it's a good piece of information, it's good to know they fit and also good to know they are realistically too big for stock bottom end, mainly due to rev constrains I'd imagine. What's the limiting factor when it comes to revving a B16B stock bottom end really high? Heavy pistons? Rods? Bolts?

customer was concerned about the oil pump so we capped it there for his peace of mind. id have happily sent it to 9400.
