The rear brake caliper on my sticking on my dc2,just wondering what i can do to free it up or will have have to rebuild it or buy i new one. Thanks.

Do you know if it's the piston sticking or the sliders? If its the piston then depending on how worn the piston is then it could be better to get a 2nd hand, refurbished one. That's the most time effective option.

If its the sliders then take them out, clean them with a wire brush and coat them with copper grease. It would also be a good time to buy a rebuild kit and replace the rubber boots.

I had this recently and there was quite bad pitting on the piston when we went to refurbish it so ended up replacing the entire calliper with a new OEM item. Cost me about £300 new as there were none for sale on here at the time.

If I was you I'd try and pick up one from a breakers on here - as noted above it's the most time effective option. Think I saw a thread with the callipers at about £100 each - when you consider the refurb kit is about £30 then factor in the time to repair (and the risk it won't work) I think it's a done deal personally.

Second hand you do run the risk that the same thing will happen again though.

There's a company called 'Bigg Red' (I think that's the name), who specialise in refurbishment of calipers. The only thing they don't seem to do is refurb the brackets.

Ye bigg red are a good company, its worth pulling the slider pins out first and check them for corrosion, if they have rust on them inside it means the boots are letting in dirt moisture, IF they are in good condition its most defo the caliper piston. I rebuilt a set and found one had bad pitting, i got a replacement piston for around £35 i think.

I wouldn't hassle freeing it up, just get it refurbed. Freeing it up probably means it will stick soon enough again.

I have same problem in mine, was down to the fact that it is parked up most of the week and always left hand break up, calipers started to stick at the rear as a result...
