Ill introduce myself firstly, I'm Sam 25 from Manchester hello all.

I'm wondering what the procedure is for me buying a car from Ireland and bring it over the England? What is exactly involved in this. I'm sure there are many variables to consider but if anyone could give me any info on this would be much appreciated.

I have brush over the posts using the search facility and didn't find anything if I've missed it I apologise!

Thanks

OK thanks alot for clearing that up, I have been told all sorts but by no one who has actually done it.

Much appreciated.

You can just bring it over on the boat from Northern Ireland, surely coming from Suothern Ireland it would need UK regsitration though? I know my IOM car needed re-registering as it is not part of the UK.

Give gav_ek9 a shout hes done it . I had an email form him with all the info but i deleted it .
From what i can remember you get 6 month to reregister it in the uk for you to register it has to have a british MOT and cover from a british insurer but it depends on what insurance company your with weather they cover you on an irish car until it register .

As for Ferries it depends where you are located ?

Stenaline run from Holyhead - Dunlirie/Dublin
Fishgaurd - Rosslare
Streanraer - Belfast
Fleetwood - larne
P&O Ferries run Liverpool - Dublin
Carinrian - Larne
Irish Ferries run Rosslare - Pembroke
think theres one to dublin aswell
And the another company cant remember Who run cork - cardiff

Hope this helps :nice:

I tried to PM gav_ek9 regarding this but I'm not at my 10 posts yet

OK that's good to know, if anyone can give gav_ek9 a nudge in this direction I would be grateful!

I am in Manchester Wishy so Liverpool would be where I'd head from

Thanks for the replies

AL give Gav a shout for you mate :nice:

There maybe a couple more companys run out of Liverpool ;)

alright man welcome to the forum, sorry my fookin cat chewed through my laptop charger... Again ! Hence not been on in a couple days using my phone to do this and its a pain haha,

Yeah as wishy said you get 6 months to register it from irish to uk plates if the car is from dublin etc. Easy enough to do mate just get the required v55 form from the dvla and pay the 55 quid fee plus your tax which is 104 quid then 2 days later you have your new regy number and uk regy docs. Straight forward man and well worth it, will be going back for my next one lol, hope this helps and sorry doing this on my phone is a pure mission haha will be back on tonight hopefully

make sure you buy some thing with 2 years nct or as new as possible as the government guarantee it for 2 years and they really check every thing on the car. this will ensure you dont buy something that has been wrecked

yeah you wont have to get it sva'd or anythin as most 9's are over 10 years old anyway as long as you get it mot'd once you've brought it back as the certificate is required for the registration. Your insurance company can insure the car on the chassis number for a certain amount of time for you to get it back and registered etc. I'll pm you everything you need later on tryin to type on this phone is a nightmare the now lol

Cheers guys you all have been very helpful!

Nice one Gav appreciate it thats cleared alot up for me, look forward to hearing from you :nice:
