Got a high whirring sound coming from the belt area in the bay, thinking it could either be a bearing that is knackered or an over-tensioned belt. When I had the motor put in, my tuner said he checked the tension on the belt and it was fine, tensioner was also fine.....but doesn't sound healthy to me.

Driven the car less than 1000 miles since installation.

Let me know what you guys think.

(couldn't embed the video, so just click it, should take it to my photobucket)

what brand belt did you use?, i have recently had the same issue and exact same noise (not on a b series tho), was using a getes belt, the tension seemed ok when i set it, but after running it it went tighter, not much but a enough that it felt to tight, after leaving it cool down it went back to being around the correct tension again, was very strange.

have you checked the aux belts?, could easily be them making the noise, you could remove them and run the engine to rule them out.

if the noise is still there remove the top parts of the cover and have a feel of the belt tension

i have the same problem on my, sound like its to tight, take off cover and check belt on the middle it should be knead about 1 inch

Thanks for the input, going to check the belt tension again, whip the cover off and maybe take the auxillary belts off to narrow it down, I have a feeling it's over-tensioned belt though

Mine makes the same noise, The mechanic at the local Honda dealership said it was the cam belt, about to go and sort it this morning!

Sounds like an over-tensioned belt but could be the cover rubbing too at the cam pulleys (if they are thick adjustable ones) ,behind the crankshaft pulley or on the inner crankshaft sprocket.

They can make that noise with a fraction more tension on the belt so can be tricky to sort without stripping it all down again.

It's a power enterprise Kevlar belt, so hopefully if it is over tensioned it won't have stretched. A friend of mine had a similar but more severe noise on his 205 gti, over-tensioned belt, ended up ripping his exhaust pulley clean off on the motorway :nerv:

That sounds familiar!

Done mine today, the belt was seriously tight, no wonder it was whining! Tensioner bolt is a bit fiddly to get to, otherwise it's not too bad a job to fix.

Runs nice and silent now. :nice:
