Noticed my V5 is not correct so i want to change it so everything is legal, has anyone done this themselves and if so how?

I had a look on gov.uk etc and as far as i can see you just write what is meant to be there next to what is there, for some reason it says saloon on the v5 which it obviously isnt so i want to change it. Anyone done this before? And have any advice?

Thanks

I think you need to write to them.
Best think to do is call them. I spoke to them recently regarding a reg transfer.

Yeah thats true, had a look on the website but seems a bit to simple, will try phone them tomorrow or monday, just thought it would be worth a post as im sure a few imports weren't registered properly for whatever reason.

Done it twice, once correcting roof (hardtop instead of soft top) and once incorrect number of doors (5->3). I just attached a letter explaining the situation to the V5 and they sent me a new corrected V5 it really was that simple. They only get fussy in case of engine swaps if different (lower) tax bracket gets involved and similar stuff. They know full well that V5s are FULL of errors, a fifth of cars I've owned had some sort of error on the V5.

Mine has had an engine swap as well so that needs declared. Read on the website that if thats the case i need to get a letter from a garage or something. So i guess i will be best to just phone them to clear things up.

I guess you went up in tax (ej9 to B?) so they might actually just take it, why would you lie to pay more? I think it's mainly when people claim they've put a smaller engine in they get funny, the big brother doesn't like to get less in tax, more tends to be OK!

I have an ek9, so its registered as a 1.6 but its got a b18 in it. So i need to sort that. As i think this could potentially cause issues if stopped by the police.

TBH I doubt the police would look or even know where to look, as long as your insurance company knows you should be safe. But since it doesn't cost anything you might as well change it to be safe.

Yeah its just to be safe more than anything else. Less things for police to be asking about the better. Like you say if its going to be free to change my v5 then why not.

So in case anyone else is wondering what needs done for a change of body shape and engine, i phoned dvla today and basically as oifovo says, just have to fill in section 7 of the v5 and in my case get it checked by a main dealer and a letter from them saying what has changed on headed paper.

Then send it away and that should be it.

And there is also the off chance you might get a peeler who is into his cars and is having a bad day ;)

Exactly, been in touch with my old place of work (Honda main dealer) and they are happy to have a look over the car and write a letter, so happy days :)

They cant really argue with that. I suppose you got it as a favour too.
