Wire brush looks ok for a while but brings a lot of small marks on the metal,corrodes after a while and looks dog deck if you can't get into all the small indents
Diy soda blaster will clean alot of tarnish off. If you clean it with cheap nasty acidic wheel cleaner first it'll take off more
Cheap alternative is degrease followed by variety of wire wheels on a drill. Finish will emery sandpaper. Clean off and spray clear lacquer. Should be enough of a key to stick.
